Long Distance Dedication Pays Off for Neal

Davenport, Ia. (Jan. 9, 2006) - Terry Neal was the big winner at the Quad City Dirt Track Awards presented by the Quad City Racing Connection. More than two hundred people attended the event held at Fargo Dance and Sports, in Moline, on Saturday, January 7th.

Neal, a late model driver from Ely, Iowa both the Weedon Award and the Driver‘s Choice Award for the late model class. The Weedon Award, given to the overall Driver’s Choice winner, is named for local racing legend Ronnie Weedon, who died last year.

As winner of the Weedon Award, Neal received a racing-styled ring with his car number. The ring was given to Neal by Dee Weedon and Mr. & Mrs. Ron Pershy of J&J Camper Sales.

Throughout the 2005 season, Neal was a dominant force capturing IMCA late model track championships at both the Davenport Speedway and Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa. In addition to his weekly racing efforts, Neal finished second in IMCA National Late Model points and captured the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series crown.

The other Driver‘s Choice Awards by class were: Open Wheel - Jeff Morris, Street Stock - Tony VonDresky, B-Modifieds - Jake Bowman, Cruiser/Truck/4Cyl - Dan Mohr.

Other awards handed out at the event included the racing OSCAR’s, given for Outstanding Support or Contribution to Auto Racing. The QUAD CITIES RACING CONNECTION is pleased to announce that the winners of the 2005 OSCARs are: Mr. Bob Kulig (scorer) and Mr. Fred Williams (scorer/official) for their long-standing commitment and service to local racing

A new addition to the Quad City Dirt Track Awards is the RCTV Rookie of the Year Award. The award was given to Mike Murphy Jr., who was also the IMCA National Late Model Rookie of the Year. The award was presented by the crew and announcers of RCTV (Racing Connection Television), which can be seen on Mediacom Channel 19.

Speedway Fire Rescue presented their Tod Brinkman Memorial Award to Ron Pershy for his efforts and dedication to racing.

Through donations and raffle prizes, the QUAD CITY DIRT TRACK AWARDS was able to contribute over $1,000 to Speedway Fire Rescue. SFR provides safety crews to local racetracks and other motorsports events.
