Rusty Wallace
Tours Iowa to Promote Iowa Speedway
Newton, IA (Jan. 19, 2006) - Veteran NASCAR Champion Rusty Wallace
is visiting cities across Iowa to promote Iowa Speedway and kick off
a marketing campaign to sell VIP club seats at the track's exclusive
Newton Club. Wallace, who retired from the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series
after the 2005 season, is visiting Newton, Ft. Dodge, Quad Cities,
Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Omaha on January 24-25. He is also
making a special appearance at the Iowa Statehouse before ending his
visit at an exclusive "invitation only" dinner in West Des Moines.
Businesses can call the Iowa Speedway Office at 641-792-8722 for
dinner information. Wallace departs for Daytona, Florida on Thursday
morning, in what is expected to be his final competitive race
January 28-29 in the Rolex 24 Hour Race.
Iowa Speedway General Manager Todd Melfi says Wallace's visit to
Iowa comes at a time when fan interest in Iowa Speedway is rapidly
building. "All 28 VIP Luxury Suites at the track are now sold out,"
stated Melfi, "and the energy and enthusiasm Rusty brings to public
and private gatherings will help promote the Ultra-Exclusive Newton
Club Seats. These are the last premium indoor hospitality seats
available at Iowa Speedway.
Iowa Speedway is located along I-80 at Exit #168 on land adjacent to
the Newton airport. Wallace, part-owner has designed the state of
the art speedway consisting of a 7/8 mile asphalt oval track being
built by U.S. Motorsport Corporation. Iowa Speedway is the first
ever driver designed race track and is tagged the "Rusty Wallace
Signature Series" track. The facility will have an initial seating
capacity of 30,000 with additional space to expand to 42,000 seats
in 2007. In addition, the track is installing "SAFER Barrier"
technology to cushion the blow faced by drivers when their car
strikes an outside retaining wall, thus absorbing the impact of the
crash and reducing the risk of injury to the driver. Iowa Speedway
will be the first track to ever have the SAFER Barrier installed at
construction around the entire perimeter of the racetrack and is
also the first track to be constructed with the "New-Age" system
that does not require a concrete wall at all. This state of the art
technology is simply a taste of what Iowa Speedway will offer the
racing world.
Iowa Speedway has also scheduled the Richard Petty Driving
Experience (www.1800bepetty.com) to be at the track from August
10-13. Fans will be able to experience the thrill of strapping in to
a real live stock car and taking laps at more than 150 mph around
the beautifully designed track. "We are thrilled that Richard Petty
has decided to bring the premier driving program in the country to
our new property" states Stan Clement, President of Iowa Speedway.
"I think this speedway will quickly become a fan favorite to
everyone who visits and to have Richard Petty Driving Experience
here in year one is fantastic."
Iowa Speedway's Chief Operating Officer, Andy Vertrees, says
construction on the massive project continues to move forward with
races, including the ASA Late Model Challenge Series, ARCA Re-Max
Series, USAC Silver Crown/Sprint/Midget Series and Hooters Pro Cup
Series already scheduled for the 2006 racing season. Vertrees says,
"It's an exciting time here at the track as things take shape and
Iowa Speedway will provide a great opportunity for the entire State
of Iowa to benefit from." Vertrees continued by saying, "Iowa
Speedway is the most state of the art racing facility ever built and
race fans throughout the entire State of Iowa will be proud to have
the track in their backyard."
