Storm Destroys Tower at Big River Sand Drags
By Jeff Mills
Bonne Terre, Mo. - (April 2, 2006) The tower that controls all basic operations
at Big River Sand Drags was totally destroyed during the storm that hit the
Bonne Terre area Sunday. Nobody was injured in the incident, however the
building was totally destroyed.
"I'm just so grateful this didn't happen on a race night," said track owner
Jason Waller of Bonne Terre. "There is nothing salvageable from the actual
structure. All the computer equipment inside was also destroyed. It was smashed
and full of water."
Fortunately most of the track's equipment that is used in the operation of the
sand drag races (starting lights and related equipment) may be salvaged.
Due to the loss, the track is forced to cancel it's annual test and tune day
scheduled for April 8.
"We're hoping to work out at least a temporary situation so we can have the
track opened for the season opener on Saturday, April 22nd," Waller said.
