RUTER, DOLPHIN, LUNDY, WISE TAKE SEASON-OPENING USRA WINS AT
PRITCHARD FAMILY AUTO STORES HANCOCK COUNTRY SPEEDWAY
By Emily Hiscocks
BRITT, Ia (April 21, 2006) - The Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock Country
Speedway was fast -- really fast -- on Friday night and pole position seemed to
be the golden spot for the season opener for the USRA Casey's General Stores
Weekly Racing Series.
In three out of six features, the winners started and stayed in first.
After flip-flop finishes in both the Senior Hornets (Charles Gardner) and Junior
Hornets (Colby Fett), the USRA Hobby Stocks got the battles started. Chad Lundy
and Chris Monson jockeyed for position until Monson took the lead in turn 2.
This was short-lived, however, as he was slowed by a flat tire in turn 4. Lundy
took this opportunity to get the lead back. Michael Schadendorf tried one final
pass on the high side on the final straightaway but came up just short of Lundy
and the victory. Lundy celebrated his victory with a burn-out in front of the
grandstands and a celebratory jig on the top of his car.
After dominating victories in their heat races, Jeff Dolphin and Ryan Hiscocks
were looking for the season-opening victory in the USRA Stock Cars. Pole
position for Dolphin proved to be all he needed to separate himself from the
pack. Hiscocks battled John Campbell nearly the entire race for the third
position, coming up just short and getting passed in the end.
“With this competition and the track the way it was tonight, I’m happy with my
finish,” Hiscocks commented. “Dolphin ran really well tonight.”
In the biggest class of the night, the 16-car USRA B-Modified feature gave the
fans something to "oooh and ahhh" about. Two blown motors, one spin-out
collision and one car driving off the track took credit for seven cars failing
to finish the race. J.J. Wise, however, sailed to victory avoiding any such
collision or challenge.
In the USRA Modified nightcap, Ryan Ruter quickly moved through the pack,
passing Alan Mondus for the lead. Mark Elliot was right behind him, battling for
the top spot for nearly 10 laps until his No. 12 Modified suffered right-front
suspension damage. That was all the crowd favorite Ruter needed to get to the
finish line first.
Be sure to catch next week’s races at the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock
Country Speedway. Gates will open at 5 p.m., with hot laps at 7:15 and racing at
7:30. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for kids ages 6-12. Children 5 and under
are admitted FREE each night.
The Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway is located 1.3 miles
south of US 18 on James St. (turns into Main Ave. and Diagonal and 1st), then
0.5 mile east on 220th Ave., then 0.1 mile north on Jewell Ave. (ESR). For more
information call the track hotline at (641) 843-4513.
