Cameras Are Rolling On KPTH Fox 44 Night
By Denny Grabenbauer
BUENA VISTA, Ia. (April 26, 2006) - With the T.V. cameras from Fox 44 rolling on
Wednesday night, week number three moved on into the Buena Vista Raceway. KPTH
personally “Jackie” stole the show in the early going by starting the night off
by singing the National Anthem, then moved to the flag stand to wave the first
green flag of the night. “This is just great to be here and be involved with the
racers and fans,” explained Jackie. “This is just like coming back home for me,
and I am going to enjoy every bit of the night.”
Without the strong winds, of one week earlier, week number three might be one
that will be remembered the rest of the season. Two drivers that were leading in
there respective divisions would be no-shows on the night sending them deep into
the point chase and one driver would keep his winning streak alive by winning
his third feature of the year, for the early season three-peat.
Jay Noteboom would keep his winning ways alive by scoring his third feature
victory in the Fitzpatrick Auto Center I.M.C.A. Modified division. Noteboom
would start the twenty-lap event in the ninth starting spot but would explode
into the lead by lap eight. Through out the remaining twelve laps, a sprinkling
of yellow flags, Noteboom would be untouchable, as he would coast once again to
victory. Joel Ziegmann who would lead the opening eight laps would finish second
followed by Ricky Stephan and Jeff Anderson.
In the Scooters Bar & Grill I.M.C.A. Stock Car feature Randy Andreason; starting
from his outside starting spot would lead in the early going. Sparks would fly
by lap two as the competition would was racing close and furious, and by lap
four Andreason would see his lead taken away by Brian Blessington. Blessington
would go on from that point and take his second victory of the year but not
before David Smith would make his presence felt. Smith the defending Track
Champion would give Blessington everything he had, but on this night it wasn’t
enough as Blessington. Smith would finish a close second followed by Andreason
and Dale Woodard.
A new winner would emerge in the Storm Lake Honda Artic Cat 360-B-Mod division
as point leader Jake Simpson would not make week number three. Mike Bailey would
take the early lead but would loose the handle and spin his car giving the lead
to Doug Ockerman. Ockerman would hold onto the top position past the half way
point but it would be Casey Friedrichsen who would withstand numerous yellow
flags in the middle of the contest to score his first victory of the year. Dan
Hanselman, newcomer Dan VanBreggen and Brandon Lucas would follow Friedrichsen
across the finish line.
Going into the nights competition in the Storm Lake Truck & Trailer I.M.C.A.
Hobby Stock division Andy Boeckman was the man at the top of the chart. But,
because Boeckman was a no-show, he would end the night in the bottom half of the
point’s battle. Kyle Timmerman would lead the first two laps of the feature
before Donovan Smith showed his strength again, and walk away with the feature
event. For the remaining nine laps all that Luke Wanninger. Dustin Smith and
Tony Pogeler could do is watch Donovan pull away for his second victory of the
year and his seventh I.M.C.A. Hobby Stock feature win of the season.
Justin Nehring would start from out side row one in the Rasmussen Ford BVR
Bomber division and lead the first four laps. Devin Smith who started in the
ninth position would take the lead at the half way point and go on to record his
second win of the year, in back to back weeks. Opening night winner Adam Hicks
would finish second followed by Eric Puhrman and Nick Smith.
It was a night of just good hard racing and close competition. Rookie Matt
Sangwin would feel the heat literally in the 360 B-Mod class, as his car erupted
into a fireball while going into turn one. Sangwin was able to get out of the
car uninjured, as the flames would put themselves out.
When the final checkered flag of the evening fell at 9:25, the KPTH cameras
would be turned off and the evening would come to an end. Racing will continue
next Wednesday night as the month of May, with all there May flowers will take
to the raceway. The grandstand will open at 6:00, followed by hot laps at 6:45
and the first green flag of the night will begin at 7:30.
