Blum Picks Up Double Pay Bonus by Inches at Jackson County
by Ed Potter
MAQUOKETA, IA (May 19, 2006) - If you win your feature Friday night at Davenport
Speedway and then come to Jackson County Speedway Saturday night and repeat that
feat you can make double the money for Saturday's win. After winning their
respective heat races Saturday in the IMCA Late Model division Terry Neal and
Kevin Blum knew they had their work cut out as Neal drew starting position five
and Blum pulled number twelve. Young Ryan Duhme grabbed the early feature lead
and held on for the first six laps, when Neal moved out front. At lap seventeen
the race's only caution flew with Neal leading Duhme, Jeremiah Hurst and Blum.
On the restart Blum moved into second and then out front two laps later. Coming
off turn four on the checkered flag lap Neal got back up beside Blum and the two
had a drag race down the front chute for the finish. Blum held on by mere inches
to take the victory and pick up the double pay off, as he had won Friday in
Davenport. Dustin Edwards was third with Hurst fourth and second heat winner,
Mark Preston fifth.
Using his pole starting spot, Bart Miller led the single caution V8 Modified
feature flag to flag to take his first win of the year, with Ray Cox Jr. in hot
pursuit to take second. After being involved in the races only caution, Tim
Current came back up to take third with Kelly Pestka and Don Pataska rounding
out the top five. Cox and Luke Pestka won the heats.
Luke Miller led the first lap of the Street Stock feature with Jon Poll taking
over on lap two. On a fourth lap restart second heat winner, Andrew Chelf
charged to the front and went on for his fist Street Stock win of his career.
Shane Oberbreckling was second with first heat winner, Brian Bonney third, Terry
Rittmer fourth and Mike Shrope fifth.
The B Modified feature saw first heat winner, Ben Traver come from his fourth
place starting spot to lead the first lapwith pole sitter, Shawn Flagel taking
over on lap two. The race was red flagged on the white flag lap as thiard heat
winner, Jarrett Franzen barrel-rolled his car in tu;rn four. Flagel took his
first win of the season with Traver second, second heat winner, B.J. Jackson
third, Mike Baker fourth and Rick Galloway fifth.
The Hobby Stock feature had some problems getting started as the caution flew
four times before a lap was scored. Once that first lap got into tahe books the
race went the rest of tahe way non-stop. First heat winner, Don Maarcov Sr
grabbed the early lea, but couldn't hold off the challenges of Steve harms.
Harms took over the lead on lap six and went on for his second straight victory
of the year. Marcov held on for second with second heat winner, Sheldon Hunter
taking third. MattWilson was fourth with Brian Hagerman fifth.
Joe Bonney took the lead of tahe Trophy Truck feature from Jed Holland on the
thiard lap of athe feature and led the rest of the way for his first win of the
year. Holland held on for second with Bruce Yoerger thirad, heat winner, Alan
Staskal fourth and Ethan Milder fifth.
Justin Kay came from his eleventh place starting spot to take the lead of the 4
Stock feature from his brother Dustin on the third lap. Justin went on for the
win with Dustin in hot pursuit for second. Shane Marcov was third followed by
Dusty Miller and Jeremy Capron, in that order. Dustin Kay, Dan Mohr and Tom
Lamey won the heats.
