Griffith dominates Late Model field in an action packed night
at The Hamilton County Speedway.
By: Ryan Bergeson
WEBSTER CITY, Ia. (May 20, 2006) - With better weather brought the cars and fans
back to the historic half mile this Saturday night. Double features was the hot
ticket as the fans saw everything you could want to see in one night of
entertainment at the historic venue. The races were slowed twice by red flag
incidents, as well as, a shot of water from mother nature during the middle of
the racing program. Through all the obsticles, we were able to finish the
program in a respectable fashion.
The night was started off with the completion of the feature events remaining
from last weeks slate as the fans saw 2 great shows for the price of one. The
first feature was the finish of the Econo Stock feature which went to the driver
out of Lake City, Devin Smith. Smith was followed by Mortenson, Stuchen and
Nokes.
The next feature event was the Performance Electric Hobby Stock event, which
went the driver out of Williams, IA, Mark Haglund. Haglund was followed by
Schipper, Schmauss, and Stein.
The Neighbors Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing Stock feature was another great
race that saw Iowa Falls, IA, Jason Wagoner pick up another win. Wagoner was
followed by Foster, Griffith and Reicks. Mitchell Griffith would pick up the
Karl Chevrolet Hard Charger Award presented by Bryan Denekas.
The Conleys Trucking Limited Modifieds would see Brian Stein pick up the feature
win. Stein was able to hold off Doug McCollough, Ryan Gustin and Nate Caruth.
The next feature on the speedway was the West Wind Logistics Modified event that
saw Jason Wagoner make another return to victory lane, doing double duty in the
Stock Car and Modified divisions. Wagoner was able to power his way to the win
followed by Jon Snyder, Adam Larson, and Scott Williams.
The final make up feature of the night was the Dinsdale Motors IMCA Late Models.
Ryan Griffith was able to survive a few cautions and outlast the competition.
Darrel DeFrance and Mike Smith would make their way through the field but it
would not be enough. Griffith would pick up the win and he was followed by Jerry
Dedrick, DeFrance, and Smith.
Now that the entire Make up features were scored and in the book, it was time to
start night #6. With the fans already seeing six great shows, it would only be
an appetizer for what they would see as the night wore on. The first feature of
night #6 would be the the Conleys Trucking Limited Modifieds. Ryan Gustin was
able to make the pass on Giles for the lead and he would not look back. Gustin
was able to pick up the feature win. Lettow, McCollough, and Paul Price would
round out the top four. Nate Caruth and Ryan Gustin would pick up heat race
wins.
The Neighbors Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing Stock Cars would make their way to
the speedway. Rusty Fister would grab the lead early and the fans would see
battles all over the racetrack. Bloemke, Silvey, and Foster would all swap
between the fourth position and advance their way through the field. As the laps
counted off, Mitchell Griffith would make a push to the front but, would be
denied. Rusty Fister would grab the checkered flag and the trophy on this night.
Fister would be followed by Jeremy Ades, Mitchell Griffith and Scott Bloemke.
Rusty Fister, Dennie Plain, and Jeremy Ades would pick up heat race wins.
The West Wind Logistics Modified Feature was full of action as Scott Olson and
Jason Wagoner would swap between the captains chair. Finally, Olson was able to
take the lead away and he would not let go. Wagoner would have to settle for
second and Kevin Stoa and Charlie McKenna would round out the top four. Jon
Snyder and Kevin Stoa would pick up heat race wins. The Karl Chevrolet Hard
Charger Award would not get collected in this feature, so the Award will be for
$200 next week in the Late Model division.
The finale of the evening would be the second feature for the Dinsdale Motors
IMCA Late Models. Once again Ryan Griffith was the class of the field as he made
the move early to the top spot. Kelly Tapper and Mike Smith were locked into a
battle all their own as they continually ran side by side for the second
position. Tony Moro would also try to battle for second as Griffith left them
behind by several car lengths. Griffith again would power to the feature win and
go 2 for 2 on the night. Tapper, Smith and Moro would round out the top four.
Ryan Griffith and Mike Smith would pick up heat race wins.
Once again the racing was action packed as the obstacles were dodged all night
long. Due to time constraints beyond our control and a city ordinance, the
Performance Electric Hobby Stock Feature and The Econo Stock Feature will be
made up next Saturday night. We thank all our drivers, and fans and sponsors for
sharing in the excitement each and every Saturday night. We look forward to
seeing you next Saturday night for Hot Laps at 6:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
