BROCKERT AND HIXSON GET FIRST WIN
Story by Troy Shanker www.westlibertyracing.com
WEST LIBERTY, Ia. (May 3, 2006) - Starting the night off was the QCSA Auto
Auction Hornets with Geoffrey Theobald and Chris Havel setting the early pace.
Havel would take over the race lead heading down the back stretch with Robert
Harding taking over second place a lap later. Shuan Slaughter would be on the
move by lap three as he had caught up to the race leaders and would go three
wide through turns one and two and would take the lead in four and take home
another win. Chis Havel finished second, Alex Buffington moved into the third
position, Robert Harding sliding back to fourth and Darin Smith fifth.
Scott Pratt continued his dominance in the USRA/Kile Motorsports Stock Cars. The
first part of the race saw many cars battling for positions. Jessie Erwin, David
Brandies and Trent Vrchoticky were trying to take over the runner up spot with
Greg Gill leading the race up to lap eight before Pratt would take the lead.
Ryan Buffington would get by Gill on the last lap to take over second place.
Pratt would go on to take another checkered flag. Ryan Buffington second, Tad
Payne moving up to third, Jerry Pratt fourth, and Trent Vrchoticky hanging on to
fifth.
The Corner Tap Limited Lated Models saw twenty cars in the main event with Tim
Rock and Kyle Lackey race their way through the first corner. Lackey would take
over the lead the next time around. Lackey's race lead would be short lived as
Dan Brockert was moving up quickly and within a few laps caught the race leader
Lackey. Brockert and Lackey would run side-by-side down the back stretch and
even touch before Brockert would take over the lead. Brockert would have over a
half a lap lead when he crossed the finished line for his first win of the
season. Mick Wiele would be able to get by Lackey for second, Lackey third, Sam
Harroun coming from a long ways back to take fourth place and Harvey Bloomer
holding on to fifth.
The program changed a little for the night as the JC Dubil Late Models ran next
berfor the USRA/Miller Time Modifieds. Jeff Guegerich and Ace Ihm would race
door to door for the first three laps before Ihm would take over the top spot.
Chris Simpson would move up to second before a lap ten caution. After the
caution, Brian Harris would pull a slide job on Simpson in turn one to take over
second but Simpson would repay Harris in turn three. Simpson would run down Ihm
but could not pass him until Ihm slid up the track in turn two which allowed
Simpson to take over the lead. Once Simpson took over the lead he checked out
with a sizeable lead on Ihm when he crossed the finish line for the win. Ace Ihm
had to settle for second with Brian Harris third, Chad Simpson fourth and Kevin
Kile fifth.
The last race on the night program was the USRA/Miller Time Modifieds with 18
cars making the feature event. Gus Hughes took the race lead with Rick Hixson on
his rear bumper. Hixson would run the high side and take over the top spot the
next time around. Hughes slid up the track on lap two which allowed Wade Lee to
get beside him but Lee could not capitalize on Hughes mistake. Larry Herring
would be slowly picking off one car at a time and took over second place by lap
14. Herring would catch Hixson by the last lap but had to settle for a very
close second. Hixson would snap Herring's win streak to bring home his first of
the
year.
