BUENA VISTA RACEWAY WEDNESDAY
By Denny Grabenbauer
BUENA VISTA, IA. (July 5, 2006) - It was a moving beginning to the Kyle Sutter
Memorial night at the Buena Vista Raceway this past Wednesday night as Sergeant
Rod Walters with the Iowa Army National led a very moving opening ceremony with
the releasing of white balloons and the playing of taps. Then recording artist
Shawn Mayer would lead the crowd in the singing of our National Anthem.
The evening would start off in a not so good way for Tim Hansen in the Rasmussen
Ford BVR Bomber division by rolling his car in between corners three and four
during the second heat race of the evening. Hansen would climb from his battered
car but would be done for the evening.
Wednesday night again was a memorable night with visitors from Denmark, Finland
and California making the long trip to Alta to cheer on their favorite drivers.
Feature winners would include Eric Puhrman in the Rasmussen Ford BVR Bomber
division winning his third feature of the season as he out distanced point
leader Adam Hicks. Finishing third was Nick Smith and forth place would go to
Colby Winter.
For the first time this season a new winner would emerge in the Storm Lake Truck
& Trailer I.M.C.A. Hobby Stock feature. A blown motor by Donovan Smith and
Dustin Smith being caught up in a lap one incident would open the door for Tony
Pogeler to score his first feature of the season. Kyle Robinson would have his
best run of the year finishing second followed by Mark Hill and Pat Cross.
Point leader Dan Hanselman would have things going his way in the Storm Lake
Artic Cat 360-B-Mod class as he would take the lead from Mark White on lap eight
to go on for his second win of the season. Jack Simpson, Matt Sangwin and White
would follow Hanselman across the finish line.
Brian Blessington scored his sixth win of the year in the Scooters Bar & Grill
I.M.C.A. Stock Car feature taking the lead from Bud Mattson after a restart on
lap five. Point leader Dave Smith would finish second followed by Jason
Mickelson and Brian Mattson.
In the who’s the leader in the point standings in the Fitzpatrick Auto Center
I.M.C.A. Modified division Brad Williams would win the race for his third win of
the night as the point lead would end the night in a two way tie. Williams would
take the lead from James Slawson off turn one on lap two and go on for the win.
The race would only be slowed by one yellow flag on lap fourteen. Mike Hansen
would finish second followed by Clay Christensen and Jim Thies. The evening
started with Ricky Stephan leading Jay Noteboom by a mere one point, but would
end the night with the two veteran drivers tied at the top of the point charts.
The racing action will continue next Wednesday night with hot laps starting at
6:45 and the first green flag race of the night will be getting underway at
7:30.
