Remley and Stevens Take First 2006 Davenport Wins

DAVENPORT, IA (July 7, 2006) – One week after Mike Cothron ended a three-year winless streak at Davenport Speedway, it was Fred Remley's turn to revisit victory lane. It had been two years and twenty-six days since Remley's last Davenport victory.

Pole sitter Jason Parrish led the first ten laps of the IMCA late model feature, but lost the lead to Mike Murphy Jr. after a restart. Murphy would lead a handful of laps before Remley would take over the top spot. Remley would hold off Kevin Blum in the final laps to gain the long awaited win. Blum would finish second for the second straight week with Murphy taking third. Ray Guss Jr. started 17th and finished in fourth, while Mike Cothron took fifth. Cothron, Parrish, and Hershel Roberts won the late model heats, with Blum winning the semi.

The V-8 Modified feature looked as if it were going to be a green, white, checkered affair until a lap 19 caution, then another, and another, and ... When the checkers finally did fly, it was Jerry Connors taking the accolades. Ray Cox Jr. had taken the lead on lap three and held the top spot until the final restart when Connors launched his car into the lead. Cox held on to finish second with John Bull taking third. Bob Dominacki and Thad Wilson rounded out the top five.

Modified heat race wins went to Connors, Dominacki, and Brandon Durbin, with Chuck Hanna taking the semi-feature.

Jeff Stevens captured his first Davenport Street Stock feature of the year. Stevens started on the pole of the feature and lead flag to flag. Ron Marks Jr. would mount a late race charge, but would settle for second. Tim Koehler drove to a third place finish with Rob Henry and Toby Spicer rounding out the top five. Stevens and Henry Carson won the heats.

The B-Mod main saw Jake Waterman take his second straight feature win. Waterman came back from an early race incident, quickly worked his way back through the field, and went on to take the win. Pat Fennelly was second with Dan Anderson third. B.J. Jackson and Josh Giegle were fourth and fifth respectively for the second week in a row. Mike Fluegel and Brad Pershy won the B-Mod heats.

Warren Ropp scored his third straight INEX Legend Car feature win. Dennis Begyn held the early lead, until Ropp took the lead on lap five. Once in the lead, Ropp's engine hood came loose and partly blocked his view. In heavy lapped traffic, Ropp had to back off the gas and Begyn retook the lead for lap 12. Ropp went back to the front a lap later and continued on for the win. Keith Moline made a last lap pass for second, with Rick Harris third. Begyn fell back to fourth with Chad Patch in fifth. Begyn, Moline, and Perry Mitchell took the heats.

Justin Kay won his fourth feature of the season at Davenport in the 4-Cylinder main. Kay had to work his way around early leader Tom Lamey on his way to the win. Lamey would finish second with Joe Zrostlik third. Steven Phillips was fourth and Dusty Kay fifth. Dennis Dammann Jr. and Todd Sibley won the heats.

Vintage racing coupe were on hand Friday with Terry Mattly taking the feature win.

Next Friday, July 14, will be the second Kid's Night with bike races for the little ones at the end of the evening.
