Davenport Speedway Rained Out
DAVENPORT, IA (July 21, 2006) - Persistent rains throughout the day on Friday
have washed out the stock car racing program at the Davenport Speedway for July
21st. This is the first rain out at Davenport since May 12th. Racing will return
to the quarter-mile dirt oval located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds next
Friday, July 28th, weather permitting.
With only four point races left on the 2006 schedule, the battles for the track
championships are beginning to take shape.
The Sunoco I.M.C.A. Late Models are led by Colona’s Kevin ‘Wildman’ Blum. Blum
reeled off four straight feature wins earlier in the year and has a 40-point
lead over Fred Remley of Blue Grass. Remley has one feature win this year. Last
year’s track champion Terry Neal of Ely is currently third in points.
In the V-8 Modified class, Jerry Connors of Pleasant Valley leads the way with
three feature wins. Thad Wilson, who has yet to visit victory lane this season,
is second in points. John Bull is third in points. Milo Veloz Jr. and Andy Cook
each have two Mod feature wins on the season, while Bull, Doug Crampton, Chuck
Hanna, and Kevin Peters each have a single win,
Walcott’s Tim Koehler holds a slim point lead over Bruce Fosdyck of Bettendorf
and Matt Zumwalt of Davenport in the Street Stock division. None of the top
three street stock point leaders have scored a feature win this year.
Other Davenport Speedway point leaders are: Keith Moline in INEX Legend Cars,
Pat Fennelly in B-Mods, and Todd Sibley in 4 Cylinder Stock.
Stock car racing action begins at 7:00pm every Friday night at the Davenport
Speedway, located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds.
