Bechen and Miller Get 1st Ever Feature Wins
by Ed Potter
MAQUOKETA, IA (Aug. 5, 2006) - It was a beautiful night for race Saturday at
Jackson County Speedway, after the extreme heat of the last couple of weeks.
Fans got to see some new faces in victory lane, including some very first time
winners. The 4 Stock feature started with it's only caution before a lap was
scored. On the restart fifth place starter, Brannon Bechen roared out front and
stayed there for the entire race. By lap four first heat winner, Dan Mohr was on
his tail with Dustin Kay also right there. Bechen went on for his first ever
feature win with Mohr second and Kay third. Kile Vohringer was fourth with Rob
Harding taking fifth. Chris Holmlund won the other heat.
Ethan Milder used his pole starting spot to take the lead of the Trophy Truck
feature with Alan Staskal taking over on lap five. Staskal went on to take his
fifth win of the season, with Roger Ashby, the only other truck on the lead lap,
taking second. Heat winner Bruce Yoerger was third with Midler fourth and Joe
Bonney fifth.
Second Hobby Stock heat winner, Corey Rupp used his front row starting spot to
move out front of the feature and had a pretty good lead when the caution flew
at lap five to and the field tightened back up. On the restart Rupp went back
out front, but now he had Steve Harms putting the pressure on. Harms took over
the lead on lap six and went on for his eighth win this year. On the white flag
lap Don Marcov Sr got by Rupp to take second. Rupp held on for third with Jeff
Specht fourth and Ryan Steffen fifth. Jake Hayes won the other heat.
Veteran racer, Dave Bielenberg jumped into the B Modified feature lead and held
it through lap seven despite three cautions by that time. On lap eight nineth
place starter and first heat winner, Jarrett Franzen moved out front. The third
generation driver then led the rest of the way to take his first feature win of
the year. Ben Traver took second with Bielenberg holding on for third. Second
heat winner, B.J. Jackson was fourth with last week's winner, Rick Galloway
fifth.
The Street Stock feature went flag to flag non-stop, without any cautions. Pole
sitter, Jamie Wilson led the first lap with second heat winner, Luke Miller
taking over on lap two and going on for his first ever feature win. First heat
winner, Shane Oberbreckling was second followed by Jon Poll. Corey Booth took
fourth after last weeks roll over followed by Chris Litscher's fifth.
It was a wild and wooly V8 Modified feature with a total of eight cautions when
it was finally called finished at lap eighteen when the eighth caution flew. The
largest caution of the race came at lap six and involved about half the field.
On the drop of the green at the start of the race pole sitter, Andy Cook took
control and couldn't keep a very large lead as the cautions kept tightening
things back up. After being involved in that sixth lap caution Ray Cox Jr moved
up and into second on lap twelve and was soon putting the pressure on Cook. On
lap eighteen a lapped car became involved going down the back stretch and Cox
picked the right line as Cook and the lapped car brought out the last caution.
Cox took his third win of the season with Bob Dominacki a strong second. Mike
Weidemann was third with Keith Blum fourth and Tony VonDresky fifth. Timmy
Current and Bart Miller won the heat races.
The twenty-five lap IMCA Late Model feature also went flag to flag non-stop.
First heat winner, Brian Meiners came from his third place starting spot to take
the early lead with Kevin Blum moving out front on lap five. At lap ten second
heat winner, Terry Neal moved by Meiners into second and the chase was on. Neal
couldn't quite get to Blum and had to settle for second with Blum taking his
third win of season and Jackson County. Mark Preston was third with Meiners
holding on for fourth. Jason Bahrs rounded out the top five.
