After taking one week off because of rainy weather, racing action would continue back at the Buena Vista Raceway
BUENA VISTA, IA. (Aug. 23, 2006) - After taking one week off because of rainy weather, racing action would continue back at the Buena Vista Raceway on a beautiful and full night of racing, this past Wednesday night. “One week earlier was not the case,” say’s promoter Lee Meyer. “Last Wednesday with and when the rain fell it just wouldn’t of worked out in trying to put on our racing program on, I don’t think we would of ever been able to put the race track in the condition we want it to be for our drivers. With the season winding down, we really don’t want to miss any nights, so we will do what ever it takes to get a program in, but last week it just wasn’t to be. With an additional week to prepare the racetrack, the out come could of not been better, continued Meyer. Ninety-two race teams plus a new 4-Banger class, plus special races would high light the evening during the First Cooperative Night at the raceway. “We have been looking around at what other tracks are running, so we thought we will step up and start a 4-Cylinder class of our own. We can get some interest in the class during our remaining nights, so we will be off and running with it when we get started next year. Seven new drivers were on hand to compete in the new division and when the checkered flag was thrown Elijah Zevenbergen from Ocheyedan would be the first feature winner in this division, will Brandon Ostwald coming in second.
The evening would be filled will close two and three wide racing through the entire evening, with even to new winners putting there cars in victory lane during week number eighteen. Jeff Herrig and Jason Mickelson would be two drivers who have not visited victory lane since 2002 and 2004 respectively. Herrig who has been racing at the Buena Vista Raceway off and on, when work would allow last visited victory lane during week thirteen in 2002. Mickelson saw his last victory come in August of 2004, so a lot of racing has taken place since this pair had last visited victory lane.
Herrig would take the lead on the opening lap of the Fitzpatrick Auto Center I.M.C.A. Modified feature and then would hold off the hard charging Jay Noteboom for the victory, in the green to checkered twenty-lap event.
Mickelson would start in the eighth starting spot in the Scooters Bar & Grill I.M.C.A. Stock Car feature; and watch the lead change hands twice before he would take the top spot on lap four. A yellow flag on lap eleven would be the only thing that would slow Mickelson down on this night. Finishing second was Brian Blessington.
Austin Lucas would find a way to get by his brother Brandon in the Storm Lake Honda Artic Cat 360 B-Mod feature. Tony Ross would grab the lap on the opening lap before Brandon Lucas would take the top spot on lap three. Austin Lucas would not take the lead until the number nine car made the pass for the lead on lap nine, in this green to checkered flag event. Point leader Dan Hanselman would finish third followed by Mike Bailey who turned in his third best finish of the season.
It would take two tries before the green flag would stay out in the Storm Lake Truck & Trailer I.M.C.A. Hobby Stock feature. Doug Smith would be the early leader before brother Dustin would take the lead and go on to score his seventh feature win of the year. His brother Donovan would finish second followed by Kyle Timmerman and Trent Murphy in forth.
Devin Smith would take the lead from Ramon Luna on lap two of the Rasmussen Ford BVR Bomber feature and would coast to victory, for his tenth win of the season.
Next Wednesday night will be Season Championships at the raceway with the racing action starting at 6:45 with hot-laps and 7:30 the first event of the night will begin.
