Denny Eckrich Injured at N.R.P. / Will Try Lakeside
By: Bucky Doren

TIFFIN, IA. (Sept. 25, 2006) - Driver Denny Eckrich broke his wrist Friday night during a crash at the Nebraska Raceway Park. After visiting with the Doctor on Monday, it looks as if Eckrich will try to race this coming weekend at Lakeside Speedway when the World Dirt Racing League and the Midwest Latemodel Racing Association come together for two nights of racing in Kansas City, KS.

The crash that collected "The Flying 50" started on a restart. Two cars in front of Eckrich got together and Eckrich got caught up in the aftermath. The left front wheel was ripped from the car, and it was the energy that transferred through the steering wheel that broke his wrist.

"The doctor said I cracked the big bone in my hand," Eckrich said Monday night. "He told me that it is a long crack, but it was hard for him to tell if it broke all the way through. We won't know more until tomorrow."

"I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning at 10:00," Eckrich added. "They will put in some screws in. They will have to wait until they get in there and see how bad things are and how many screws will be needed."

"Obviously the doctor is not keen on me driving," commented Eckrich. "We have talked about 'Plan B' for Lakeside (Speedway) this weekend.

"They are putting on a soft cast when they get done tomorrow. Right before I leaving on Friday (for Kansas City, KS), they are going to put on a hard cast for extra support. We'll see what it feels like in the car that night. That's 'Plan-A' right now."

So what is 'Plan-B?' Andy Eckrich, Denny's youngest brother, will travel with the team and serve as a relief driver if needed.

"Andy planned to hit Knoxville this weekend, but he's willing to give that up to help the team," Eckrich said thankfully. "He is willing to give up Knoxville to help us defended the WDRL championship. I'm confident that he can give us some solid finishes if we need him. I won't know how the hand will feel until I run a few hot laps Friday night."

"I'm a little nervous about the whole deal," admitted Eckrich. "The last time I broke my hand, I was out for six weeks. It was back in 1995 at West Liberty (Raceway) in a deal a lot like this. I got caught up in somebody else's mess."

Denny Eckrich Motorsports would like to thank the many sponsors who have helped all season long. Precision Performance, Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation, Grove Automotive, MAC Tools, Noel's Tree and Crane Service, Real Racing Wheels, and Northland Oil just to name a few.
