Tony Stewart Racing Ready to Roll in World of Outlaws Season
Opener
McMahan, Chevrolet Prepare for Season Debut
INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 7, 2007) – This week is shaping up to be a busy one for Tony
Stewart Racing’s (TSR) World of Outlaws Sprint Series contingent as driver Paul
McMahan and the No. 20 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle team prepare to officially begin
their 2007 racing season at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. McMahan
and company are taking part in six nights of racing action as the 36th Annual
DIRTcar Nationals kicks off at Volusia Speedway Park with the All Star Circuit
of Champions Series Feb. 6-8, followed by the World of Outlaws Sprint Series
season opener Feb. 9-11.
While this weekend’s events mark the start of the World of Outlaws Sprint Series
championship chase for the No. 20 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle team, McMahan never
broke stride transitioning from 2006 to 2007 as he raced in winged sprint car
competition in Australia over the winter. McMahan earned nine top-10 finishes
racing Down Under before returning to the United States last week to rejoin the
TSR team in Tampa, Fla., at East Bay Raceway Park. In three nights of
competition at East Bay, McMahan earned a seventh-place finish on Feb. 1 to
highlight the week.
The TSR team will also debut its new Chevrolet powerplants in the World of
Outlaws Sprint Series this week, as McMahan will take the wheel for the brand’s
first laps as an official sponsor in the series. The No. 20 TSR/Bass Pro
Shops/Eagle team will look to take home a win this weekend in its quest to
capture a first-ever series championship for Chevrolet in World of Outlaws
Sprint Series competition.
The 36th Annual DIRTcar Nationals will wrap up with three nights of racing
featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Series at Volusia Speedway Park on Feb.
9-11. Gates will open at 5 p.m. EST each evening with racing scheduled to begin
at 7:30 p.m. The A-main feature event winner on Feb. 9 and 10 will earn an
$8,000 payday, with Saturday night’s A-main winner earning $12,000. The total
purse for the three-day World of Outlaws Sprint Series event will be more than
$100,000.
Quotes from Paul McMahan, driver of the No. 20 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle:
As you head into the World of Outlaws season opener this weekend, were you and
the No. 20 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Eagle team able to bring any experience you might
have gained in last week’s events at East Bay Raceway Park to this event?
“The Winter Nationals event definitely threw us a curve ball, but there were
many positive aspects of the week, too. After battling through some mechanical
issues on Tuesday night, we were able to recover and get a top-10 finish on
Thursday. Our engine builder, Paul Kistler, came down to help us sort through
some of the areas we needed to adjust on the finer points of tuning the motors.
It was good to have him around. We were able to learn a lot about how the
engines will react in certain weather conditions. We’re glad to be moving on to
Volusia this week. It will be great to have the entire Chevrolet group and many
of the Bass Pro Shops representatives with our team this week. Hopefully, we’ll
be able to have a solid six-day run to kick-off the World of Outlaws season.”
