Neal Rockets to Victory at Davenport
by Mike McGuire

DAVENPORT, IA (April 27, 2007) - Terry Neal picked off the IMCA Late Model feature on Koehler Electric Season Opener night at the Davenport Speedway. Neal used his pole starting position to its full advantage, leading flag to flag for the win.

The lead was the only safe place to be as top five contenders Rob Toland, Mark Preston, and Fred Remley were all eliminated in late race incidents. Matt Ryan made his way through the mayhem to take second after starting 15th. Hershel Roberts had a solid run and finished third, with Doug Nigh and Joe Zrostlik rounding out the top five.

IMCA late model heat race wins went to Rob Toland, Mike Murphy Jr., and Eric Gustaf. Over 20 late models were on hand for the season opener.

Kevin Blum also took a feature win after starting on the pole in the V-8 Modifieds. However Blum's run to victory lane was not as easy.

From the drop of the green, Blum had to defend his lead. First from Thad Wilson, who came from sixth starting spot to second in half a lap. Later in the race, it was Ryan Dolan storming around the high side of the racetrack. Dolan was able to nose out in front a couple of times but could not make the pass stick.

Blum would go on the take the win with Milo Veloz Jr. making a late pass for second after starting 15th. Dolan finished third with John Bull fourth and Jason Pershy fifth. Blum and Doug Crampton took heat race wins.

Jon Poll used a late race pass to grab the win in the street stock feature. Henry Carson took the early lead and looked to be in control. Brad Tyler and Poll both made their way past Carson late in the race with Poll taking the win and Tyler finishing second. Carson would hang on for third with Joe Beal and Justin Conklin completing the top five. Tyler took the heat race win.

Jake Waterman took the feature win in the B-Mod main. Waterman grabbed the top spot when race leader Mike Fluegel's ride went sour. Brad Pershy held off Todd Stickler for second. Bryan Rogers and Doug Curless were fourth and fifth respectively. Waterman, Stickler, and Dan Anderson were heat winners.

Wisconsin's Eric Barth made his trip to Davenport payoff as he won the Legend Car feature. Warren Ropp challenged Barth late in the race, but had to settle for second. Craig Peekenschnieder finished third.

Brannon Bechen captured both the heat and feature in the 4 Cylinder Stocks. Ricky Kay took second in the feature with Steve Schueller third.

The month of May is a busy one at the Davenport Speedway. The next race will be Friday, May 4th, the Weedon Memorial sponsored by J&J Camper Sales. The following Wednesday, May 9th, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series visits the quarter-mile oval.
