Weedon Memorial, Outlaws Stars, and Vintage Cars featured
Maquoketa, Iowa (May 3, 2007) - It will be a busy nine days in May for the
competitors and fans at Davenport Speedway and Jackson County Speedway. Five
races in a span of nine days, at two tracks, with a variety of special
attractions to interest any race fan. Both tracks are operated by DRT TRAK
Racing Inc.
The nine days start with the running of the Weedon Memorial, Friday, May 4th, at
the Davenport Speedway. The event is named for the late Ronnie Weedon, a local
racing legend, and is sponsored by J&J Camper Sales. Weedon scored over 500
feature wins in a racing career that lasted more than fifty years. Weedon's
500th feature win came at the Davenport Speedway in August of 2003.
Old-time racing is the attraction the following night, Saturday, May 5th, at the
Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa. In addition to the regular six weekly
classes of racing action, the Midwest Jalopies will make an appearance. These
vintage racing coupes will go wheel to wheel on the quarter-mile just like in
the old days.
The eyes of dirt track racing fans across America will be on the Davenport
Speedway on Wednesday, May 9th as the World of Outlaws Late Model Series comes
to town. The top late model drivers in the country will take on a strong local
contingent on the quarter-mile oval for the first time. The race is the only WoO
race in Eastern Iowa or Western Illinois this year. Open wheel modifieds will
also be racing.
On Friday, May 11th, it's time for the local guys to shine at the Davenport
Speedway, as all six classes (IMCA late model, V-8 modified, Street stock,
B-mod, INEX legend, and 4-cylinder stock) take to the track in weekly points
action.
Closing the five-race stretch at JCS, on May 12th, will be the Nostalgia Car
Club night. Stock cars from the 60's and 70's return action in front of the
Maquoketa crowd. All six weekly racing classes will be competing as well.
As always, all events are weather permitting.
