John Hall shows skill on difficult racing surface
by: Stacy Ervin

MARION, IOWA (May 17, 2008)--John Hall of Marion racked up his second 19th-place finish in 360 sprint-car competition at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this weekend. The Sprint Car Capitol of the World has been a victim of three rainouts already this season, but dry weather prevailed on Saturday, May 17. Unfortunately, very strong winds and the hot sun combined to quickly turn the dirt surface to dry-slick racing conditions.

For Hall, the second round of Knoxville Championship Cup Series racing in 2008 ended with a familiar finish. The night started out rough for the Left Turn Enterprises racing team, when Hall drew the eighth starting spot in the night's first heat race. With a driver in front of him electing to start at the back of the 10-car field, Hall actually raced off from sixth and was able to hold that position to the finish on the dusty track.

That amassed him enough passing and finish points to qualify for the night's 360 division feature event, but he would have to battle from deep in the field at the 15th starting spot. Hall showed much of the skill he's picked up in 20 years of racing at the hallowed half-mile by making good progress on the difficult dirt and avoiding several early mishaps, but wasn't able to complete all 15 laps on this night. A flat left-rear tire on lap eight sidelined him early, but he earned his second 19th place finish in as many races since defending track champion Josh Higday was the first out of the feature event following a crash.

After two nights of racing, Hall finds himself 14th in points and hoping to move forward from the number 19.

The car, which is owned by Charles and Doris Hall, will be back in action on Saturday, May 24, for the third round of Knoxville Championship Cup Series action this year. If the night goes well, Hall may make his Sprint Invaders Association season debut on Sunday, May 25, at 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa.
