BAAKEN, BROWN. MOYER AND WOOD TAKE SOUTHERN IOWA SPEEDWAY
CHECKERS

OSKALOOSA, Ia (May 17, 2006) - Night number five was held at the Southern Iowa
Speedway with warmer temps but breezy conditions it was a much better night for
racing action and much more comfortable for the fans to enjoy the racing action
from the stands. With four classes in action for Wild Wednesday night excitment
on the fast 1/2 mile speedway.
The twenty lap Musco Lighting USRA modifieds feature event with Bruce Hanford
of Davenport taking the early race lead and lead till Brad Baaken of Garner,Iowa
took the race lead off turn two on lap six of the twenty lap event. Baaken
powered the Unicover, Bud Light number 50 to his first victory lane celebration
at the Southern Iowa Speedway. The second spot went to Mark Elliott of Webster
City who worked his way past Hanford on lap fifteen and took second with Brad
Pinkerton of New Sharon having trouble in turn two bring out the caution flag on
lap ten but worked his way from the tail to take third and Hanford taking a hard
fought fourth after battling with Brandon Banks of Washington for fourth with
Banks taking fifth.
In the fifteen lap USRA hobby stock feature event Jared Sanders of New Sharon took the early race lead and lead till lap eleven before Nathan Wood of Sigourney made the pass on the inside of turns three and four and took the lead and lead the final four laps for the win. Mike Shelton of Ottumwa and Sanders went wheel-to-wheel for the second spot the final three laps of the race with Shelton taking second followed by Sanders in third and Joe Ferguson of tracy working his way from seventh to the fourth spot. This was Wood`s second straight win in the Casey`s General Store weekly and national point standings taking a win Saturday night at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo. and repeating tonight in Oskaloosa.
The twelve lap Cookies BBQ Sauce Dirt Truck feature saw two drivers of Matt Waugh of Des Moines and Carl Moyer of Ankeny battled for the race lead with seven diffrent lead changes with Moyer taking his second win at the Southern Iowa Speedway and adding to his current point lead in the truck series. Waugh took second with Lou Sipolt of Altoona in third amd Rick Clark of Des Moines in fourth.
Our final feature of the night was the eighteen lap USRA Stock Car main event
with twenty-one cars checked in for action. Veteran racer Jim Brown of Fremont
and rookie driver Nathan Wood of Sigourney lead the field to the green falg with
Brown taking the race lead and lead all eighteen laps in style,picking up his
first win athe Southern Iowa speedway in 2006. The second spot went to Steve
Landgrebe of Oskaloosa who tried several time to close the gap but could only
get one to two car lenghts distance between the two and settled for second.
Bobby Greiner Jr. of Ottumwa took the tird spot after racing his way from the
tenth starting position. The fourth spot went to Brain Mitrisin of Oskaloosa in
the team green machine of Joe Ferguson owned machine with teammate T.J. Criss
having a engine expire on the last lap after running third and finished twelveth
after the trouble.
