VANDERBEEK, LETTOW, WOOD CAPTURE USRA CHECKERS AT 15TH ANNUAL MUSCO LIGHTING FALL CHALLENGE

OSKALOOSA, Ia. (Sept. 16) - The 15th Annual Musco Lighting Fall Challenge wrapped on Saturday at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, with the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series in action. Checkers waved for Zack VanderBeek of New Sharon (USRA Stock Cars), Matt Lettow of Roland (USRA B-Mods) and Nathan Wood of Sigourney (USRA Hobby Stocks).

In the USRA Stock Car feature, VanderBeek earned the pole position with a victory in the Pole Dash. Despite several challenges throughout the race, the 'Z-Man' held off Friday night's winner Brian Mitrisin of Oskaloosa for the $1,000 victory. Rookie Colt Mather of Webster finished third, followed by Great American Stock Car Challenge winner Bobby Greiner Jr. of Ottumwa. Oskaloosa's Steve Landgrebe rounded out the top-5 finishers. VanderBeek owned the Mahaska County Half-Mile Monster tonight as he also went on to win the O'Reilly USMTS Modified main event later in the night.

The debut of the USRA B-Mods saw Lettow lead wire to wire from the pole position and pick up the $500 top prize. Lettow held off Marshalltown's Ryan Gustin for the victory. Jacob Murray of Hartford, Joe Docekal of Dysart and Raymond Lundry of Maynard completed the first five across the finish line.

Wood notched his 26th overall USRA Hobby Stock win of the season as he took home the $500 winner's share of the purse. The Southern Iowa Speedway track champion and USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series national points leader went unchallenged from green to checkered. Ottumwa's Mike Shelton finished second, with Bill Gibson of Knoxville coming home in third. Fourth place went to Steve Holthaus of Cresco, while Paul Nagle of Nevada finished fifth after starting 10th on the grid.

Saturday night's action closed the curtain on the 2006 racing season at the Southern Iowa Speedway. Next up will be the annual awards banquet (time and date TBA). The 2007 schedule will be released by RL Promotions before the end of the year.
