THURSDAY NIGHT SEASON OPENER AT SIS SAW VANDERBEEK TAKING TWO OUT OF FOUR FEATURES

OSKALOOSA, IA (May 14) - The season opener had to wait one day but a beautiful evening for racing at the Southern Iowa Speedway was worth the wait. With four exciting classes heating the monster half-mile for the first time in 2009. The first feature of the night was the Carter International USRA B-modifieds taking the track with nineteen drivers all trying to take the checkers but Kevin Fee of Knoxville took home the top prize. Fee and Andrew Schroeder of Keswick thrilling the crowd with side-by-side action but a flat right front tire ended Schroeder’s night ending. Josh Modde made his first appearance payoff in the runner-up spot with Cayden Carter taking third but was later disqualified due to a improper working spark box. This gave Tyler Groenedyk the third spot and Mike Shelton of Bloomfield in fourth.

     The USRA stock car feature Zack Vanderbeek of New Sharon and Nathan wood of Keswick lead the field to the start of the fifteen lap feature event with Vanderbeek holding off Mike Van Genderen of Newton take the second spot with a three car battle most of the race between Van Genderen along with Matt Greiner of Washington and Brain Mitrisin of Oskaloosa with Greiner taking the third spot and Mitrisin in fourth.

      In the USRA hobby stock feature Wes Almond of Oskaloosa and Dan dyer of Ottumwa lead the field to the green with Dyer taking the early race lead before Dale Porter of Pulaski would make the pass in turns one and two and Porter looked to have the field covered till Bobby Greene of Eddyville would run down the leader and make the pass with only four laps remaining and Greene would take the win over Porter who took a close second place finish. TJ Henderson of Douds took his best finish in his career taking the third spot and Andy Coleman of Packwood taking fourth. The always exciting back flip from Greene thrilled the crowd sticking the landing like a gold medalists in the Olympics.

      Took put a exclamation point on the night Zack Vanderbeek made the pass on Brad Pinkerton of New Sharon in the MUSCO Lighting USRA A-modifieds to take his second win of the evening with victory lane being extra special with daughter Addison VanderBeek in victory lane to get her picture take with mom and dad for the first time. Pinkerton took the second spot with Richie Gustin of Gilman and Scott Dickey of Packwood racing hard for the third spot with Gustin taking third and Dickey in fourth.

      Next week will feature Monday night practice night with a tire test taking place from 6:15Pm till 9:15PM pit passes will be $15.00 and grandstand free of charge. Racing action will be on Tuesday night with the high powered USMTS modifieds in action along with the USRA hobby stocks, USRA B-Modifieds and USRA stock cars with hot laps at 7:15PM and racing action to follow.
