OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Sept. 30) – Officials from RL Promotions and the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, are readying one final extravaganza to end the 2009 season with a bang as the Mahaska County Half-Mile Monster comes alive for the 23rd Annual MUSCO Lighting Fall Challenge on Friday and Saturday, October 9-10. More than $40,000 is up for grabs in four classes. The 23rd Annual MUSCO Lighting Fall Challenge will feature some of the best drivers in four USRA-sanctioned classes — Modifieds, Stock Cars, B-Mods and Hobby Stocks — and fans will enjoy a complete show each night. All drivers will draw on Friday and Saturday for starting position, and will re-draw each night for feature race starting positions. National points will be awarded each night in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series, but a USRA license is not required to compete in this event. With tight points battles emerging, nearly every one of the top-10 drivers in each class are expected as officials are readying the pit areas an expected 150 to 170 cars or more. On Friday night, pit gates open at 4:00 and grandstands will open at 5:30, with hot laps at 7:00 and racing at 7:30. On Saturday, pit gates open at 4:00 with grandstands opening at 5:00 and hot laps at 6:00. The mud starts flying at 6:30. All seats are general admission, so fans are encouraged to get there early to avoid lines and get the best seat in the house! Camping sites with hook-ups are available at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds. Early entry fees are $50 for Hobby Stocks and B-Mods, $75 for Stock Cars and $100 for Modifieds. Entry fees at the track are $100 for Hobby Stocks and B-Mods, $125 for Stock Cars and $150 for Modifieds. The entry fee covers both days of racing. Defending MUSCO Lighting Fall Challenge champions are Brad Pinkerton (Modifieds), Tory Reicks (Stock Cars), Cayden Carter (B-Mods) and Jason McDaniel (Hobby Stocks). The Southern Iowa Speedway is a half-mile semi-banked clay oval located 0.5 mile west of US 63 on SR 92, then 0.3 mile north on N. I St. (at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds).
