OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Oct. 6) – More than 120 drivers have already pre-entered for the 23rd Annual MUSCO Lighting Fall Challenge, set for this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10, at the Southern Iowa Speedway. Last year's event saw more than 200 drivers in four classes compete during the two days, and officials are optimistic about a big field attending this year's blockbuster event too. "We had perfect weather and were really the only race scheduled this weekend last year, so everything kind of came together for a record-breaking show," said event promoter Todd Staley. "It's about ten to twenty degrees colder this year and there's some other shows going on, so we are pretty pleased with the entry list so far, especially when you figure in the current state of the economy. "We're right about twenty cars less than we were last year at this same time, so if we can stay that way through Friday then we'll have some great drivers on board and be able to give the fans about 400 laps of great racing each night." The 23rd Annual MUSCO Lighting Fall Challenge will feature some of the best drivers in four USRA-sanctioned classes — Modifieds, Stock Cars, B-Mods and Hobby Stocks — and fans will enjoy a complete show each night. More than $40,000 is up for grabs in four classes. All drivers will draw on Friday and Saturday for starting position, and will re-draw each night for feature race starting positions. National points will be awarded each night in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series, but a USRA license is not required to compete in this event. With tight points battles emerging, nearly every one of the top-10 drivers in each class are expected as officials are readying the pit areas an expected 150 to 170 cars or more. On Friday night, pit gates open at 4:00 and grandstands will open at 5:30, with hot laps at 7:00 and racing at 7:30. On Saturday, pit gates open at 4:00 with grandstands opening at 5:00 and hot laps at 6:00. The mud starts flying at 6:30. All seats are general admission, so fans are encouraged to get there early to avoid lines and get the best seat in the house! Camping sites with hook-ups are available at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds.
