OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Oct. 27) – The Halloween treats will be handed out early this Saturday, Oct. 31, as the Southern Iowa Speedway hosts the finale of the 23rd Annual MUSCO Lighting Fall Challenge. Fans who braved unseasonably cool temperatures on Friday, Oct. 9, were treated to a night of spills, chills and thrills as a field of 172 drivers packed the pit area for opening night of this year's MUSCO Lighting Fall Challenge. Snow covered the ground in the Oskaloosa area the following morning, so round 2 of the doubleheader was postponed to this Saturday. Saturday's big show will feature some of the region's best drivers in four USRA-sanctioned classes, with big money up for grabs. National points will be awarded in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series, but a USRA license is not required to compete in this event. With tight points battles emerging, and this being the final USRA points race for 2009, nearly every one of the top-10 drivers in each class are expected as officials are readying the pit area for another 170+ competitors. Officials have also announced that all kids ages 12 and under that wear their Halloween costume will be admitted FREE of charge. Pit gates will open at 12 noon and the grandstands will open at 1:00, with hot laps at 3:00 and racing at 4:00. Following hot laps, drivers will be bringing their cars to the front-stretch and kids of all ages will be invited to join them for some early Halloween afternoon trick-or-treating at the Mahaska County Half-Mile Monster. All seats are general admission, so fans are encouraged to get there early to avoid lines and get the best seat in the house. Camping sites with hook-ups are available at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds. Modifieds will be racing for $1,000 to win their main event, while Stock Car drivers will battle for an $800 top prize. Both B-Mods and Hobby Stocks will be fight for a $700 winner's paycheck. All four classes will award $150 to start the main event in their respective division. Drivers who did not compete in the event opener on Friday, Oct. 9, are invited to race on Saturday, Oct. 31. The early entry fees of $50 for Hobby Stocks and B-Mods, $75 for Stock Cars and $100 for Modifieds have been extended through race day for all new entries. All drivers will draw for heat race starting positions, and top qualifiers will re-draw for feature race starting positions.
