Oskaloosa, IA (July 1, 2010) - Jeremy Payne of Springfield, MO led every lap reroute to his first win of the 2010 season for the MARS DIRT car Series and his seventh career series win. Only one caution slowed the race action on lap seventeen of the thirty lap feature. Springfield, Missouri's Terry Phillips started fifth and raced his way up to second on the big half mile at Southern Iowa Speedway. Chad Simpson of Mt. Vernon, IA started third on the grid and raced in that spot for most of the race. Al Purkey of Coffeyville, KS started fourth and flirted with a top 3 finish but fell short and finished fourth. Jason Utter of Columbus Junction, IA started seventh and worked his way into the top 5 on the double file restart on lap 17. Coming into the night MARS DIRT car Series point leader Eric Turner of Springfield, MO had problems in his heat race as he got into the marbles and slip up into the turn one wall. With heavy right side damage, Turner and drivers and crews from several other race teams pitched into to help Turner get his car ready for the feature. Turner would have to use a provisional and start twenty first for the feature event, where he finished 14th. In the USRA hobby stock main event Donavon Nunnikhoven of Sully used the pole position to lead the field and to take the win.. Nunnikhoven held off several challenges and late cautions for the win. A good three car battle for the second and third spot saw Danny thrasher of Agency take the runner-up spot one spot better than last nights third place finish and with less sheet metal problems. The third spot was a battle with Kris Walker and Tony Teninty going wheel-to-wheel with Walker taking third and Teninty of Eldon took fourth. The Carter Manufacturing USRA B-Mods saw Mike Wanders pace the field for the first seven laps before a yellow flag would close the field onto his rear bumper. On the restart Mike Shelton of Bloomfield and Tyler Groenendyk of Oskaloosa would mix it up swapping the runner-up spot several times before Shelton would make the pass on Wanders and Groenendyk would follow. When the checkers flew Shelton took his first ever b-mod win at the Southern Iowa Speedway. Groenendyk took second with Wanders in third and Jason McDaniel of Eldon in fourth.
