25th Annual Musco
Lighting Fall Challenge slated Oct. 14-15 at Southern Iowa Speedway
OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Oct. 4) – The Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, is
readying for one final blockbuster event to put the wraps on the 2011 season
with as the Mahaska County Monster comes alive for the 25th Annual Musco
Lighting Fall Challenge on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15.
More than $50,000 is up for grabs, including $1,200 to win the main event on
Saturday for each of the four classes: Musco USRA Modifieds, USRA Karl
Chevrolet Stock Cars, Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby
Stocks.
Fans will enjoy a complete show each night featuring heats, last chance
races and an A-main in each division. Each of the four 24-car feature races
on Saturday will pay $1,200 to win and $250 to start.
All drivers will draw for heat race starting positions on Friday, with the
top 8 finishers in each feature being locked into Saturday’s main event.
However, each of those 8 qualifiers will have the option to forfeit their
guaranteed starting spot on Saturday for a chance to put some extra money in
their pocket Friday night.
After the A-Mains on Friday night, there will be 72 envelopes presented.
Each envelope will contain a cash award ranging from $50 to $700, and all 72
drivers that started Friday’s A-Mains will be pulling from the same pool of
envelopes. The driver finishing first in the first A-Main staged will have
his choice of picking his envelope first or later in the rotation, and so
forth.
The following amounts will be placed in the 72 envelopes: 2 with $700, 1
with $500, 1 with $450, 1 with $400, 1 with $350, 1 with $325, 2 with $300,
2 with $250, 2 with $200, 2 with $175, 3 with $150, 4 with $125, 28 with
$100, 8 with $75 and 14 with $50.
Drivers finishing in the top 8 will forfeit their starting spot among the
first four rows on Saturday if they elect to take an envelope, making this a
true “Gambler’s Race” for each competitor.
“It will be interesting to see how many of the drivers locked into
Saturday's show decide to give up their spot and take an envelope,” said
Todd Staley, who will be promoting his final event at Osky.
“Friday is all about finding out who is racing for glory and who is racing
for the money. You hear a lot of comments throughout the year about purses
being top heavy and not paying enough throughout the field. What could be
more balanced than every finisher having the same odds of winning the most
cash?”
In addition, ten names from the group of drivers that failed to qualify for
their A-Main Friday night will be randomly drawn to receive a $100 cash
bonus.
On Saturday, drivers not already qualified for the A-Main will once again
draw for heat race starting position, with the main event fields being
completed with last chance races in each division.
Saturday’s A-Main will pay the following amounts in each class: 1. $1200, 2.
$950, 3. $825, 4. $750, 5. $675, 6. $600, 7. $550, 8. $500, 9. $470, 10.
$430, 11. $400, 12. $350, 13. $325, 14. $300, 15. $280, 16. $275, 17. $270,
18. $265, 19. $260, 20. $255, 21. $250, 22. $250, 23. $250, 24. $250. Tow
money for non-qualifiers is $75.
But that’s not all.
Officials will hand out another $100 cash bonus at the start of Saturday’s
program to ten random drivers not already qualified for Saturday’s A-Main.
To be eligible, the driver must have raced on Friday night.
Finally, there will also be a cash bonus of $300, $200 and $100 to the top
three finishers in the USRA RHS Modifieds that are utilizing a flat-tappet
engine.
National points will be awarded each night in the American Racer USRA Weekly
Racing Series. This will be the final weekend for USRA national points, and
with tight points battles in all classes, officials are readying the pit
area for an expected 150 cars or more.
On Friday, pits gates open at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 5:30, hot laps are
at 7 and racing starts at 7:30. Pit gates will open at 1 p.m. on Saturday,
with grandstands opening at 3:30, hot laps at 6 and racing starting at 6:30.
Camping sites with hook-ups are available at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds.
Entry fee for each class is $100 on or before Oct. 7 or $150 at gate on
raceday. RACEceivers and AMB transponders will be used and available for
