Burgtorf, Allen, Dieker and Woodhurst Get Feature
Wins At Quincy Raceways
by: Jack Walbring
Quincy, Illinois, April 16, 2006) - Quincy Raceways opened the
2006 points racing season the IMCA Modifieds, Bombers and the Hornets getting
awarded points for the first time.
Ted Allen took the feature event win in the first IMCA Sanctioned Modified
feature event. Allen worked his way to the lead on the seventeenth circuit of
the 25 lap event and held a comfortable lead at the checkered flag. Jeff
Waterman followed Allen across the finish line in second with Jim Roach in
third, Josh Foster in fourth and Robbie Reed in fifth. Allen made it a clean
sweep for the night as he also picked up the win in his heat race as well as the
P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. David Weitholder and Henry
Delonjay were the other two heat race winners.
Mark Burgtorf outdistanced Terry Gallaher over the last few laps of the
Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event to take his first win of the season.
Gallaher jumped into the lead of the thirty lap main event at the drop of the
green flag and led for the first nine laps until Burgtorf powered by on the high
side to take the lead. Burgtorf then held Gallaher at bay throughout the
remainder of the event with Gallaher mounting a serious challenge to regain the
top spot with three laps to go. Burgtorf held the high line and managed to take
the checkered flag by two car lengths over Gallaher in second. The third spot
went to Denny Woodworth followed by Jerry Weisenberger in fourth and Lonnie
Bailey in fifth. Burgtorf, Woodworth and Lonnie Bailey took the heat race wins
while Gallaher grabbed up the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy
Dash. The IMCA Late Model points season begins on Sunday, April 30 at Quincy
Raceways.
Eddie Dieker keeps making it look easy as he took yet another feature event win
in the bomber division Sunday night. Dieker is using a borrowed car for the
start of the 2006 season and he won his second feature win in two tries. Dieker
is using the backup car belonging to Steve Carlin and Dieker showed everyone
that the borrowed car was faster than it’s owners current car by winning by
three car lengths over Carlin in the second spot. Michael Larsen grabbed third,
with Travis Booher in fourth and Eric Brocksieck in fifth. The bomber heat race
wins went to Adam Birck, Todd Reichert and Carlin.
It was quite a way to celebrate a fifteenth birthday for Sarah Woodhurst.
Woodhurst in only her second night of competition won both her heat and her
feature in the Hornet division. Woodhurst got the best that the rest of the
field had to offer but held on to take a very popular feature event win as the
fans were on their feet cheering her on to victory. Joel Kerr settled for second
followed by Steven Delonjay in third, James Leffew in fourth and Darren Morgan
in fifth. Leffew gathered up the other heat race checkered flag.
Racing action will continue at Quincy Raceways on Sunday April 23. Gates open at
4 with Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing at 6:30pm. Call the Quincy Raceways Hotline
