Burgtorf Makes It Two In A Row At Quincy
by: Jack Walbring
QUINCY, Il (April 23, 2006) - Mark Burgtorf, Henry Delonjay, Adam Birck and
Joel Kerr all picked up feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, April
23. The evenings events were somewhat subdued as Quincy Raceways unveiled a
large billboard remembering fallen racer, Brent Slocum. Slocum, a former Quincy
Raceways IMCA Late Model Track Champion, lost his life last year in tragic
accident at another area race track.
Burgtorf made in two in a row in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model 30 lap main
event. Jamie Wilson took the lead at the drop of the green flag of the main
event and looked like he might just have the upper hand for the event. Wilson
maintained his lead through the first nineteen laps and five caution periods
until Tom Darbyshire slipped past to take over the top spot. Darbyshire then
held onto the lead with Wilson and Terry Gallaher hot on his tail until disaster
struck on the twenty eighth lap. Darbyshire chose the wrong line when
encountering lapped traffic coming down the back stretch. Darbyshire made
contact with a lapped car and sent the top three cars into a crash entering turn
four. Darbyshire and Gallaher were unable to continue the event giving the lead
back to Jamie Wilson with Mark Burgtorf in second and Boone McLaughlin in third
when the green flag came back out on the restart. Wilson kept the lead until
getting the white flag then Mark Burgtorf pulled around the high side to take a
narrow victory over Wilson at the checkered flag. Wilson settled for second with
McLauglin in third, Jerry Weisenberger in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth.
Woodworth, Burgtorf and McLaughlin were the heat race winners with Lonnie Bailey
scoring the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Henry Delonjay grabbed the win in the Miller Lite IMCA Modified feature event as
he seems to finally got a handle on the new Hoosier Modified Tire. Delonjay
battled with Jim Roach throughout the event. Roach was credited with leading the
seventh and eighth laps but Delonjay managed to wrestle the lead back on the
ninth lap and held on to take his first 2006 feature event win. Delonjay, Roach
and Brandon Lennox were the heat race winners while Tony Dunker scored the
victory in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
The Bomber twenty lap main event was time limited to eighteen laps but it did
not make any difference to Adam Birck as Birck picked up the lead on the third
lap and held off Jarrod Richie then Travis Booher and finally Eddie Dieker to
claim his first feature win of the season. Dieker settled for second with Booher
in third, Steve Carlin in fourth and Richie in fifth. Birck, Carlin and Todd
Reichert were the heat race winners.
Joel Kerr won the Hornet feature event after a great race between himself, Tobi
Long and Don DeMint. Joel started on the outside of the third row and pulled
into the lead on the third lap of the twelve lap event and held off the serious
challenges of Long and DeMint throughout the event to take the win. Don DeMint
settled for second with Jake Powers in third, Steven Delojay in fourth and Sarah
Woodhurst in fifth. Tobi Long and Steven Delonjay were the heat race winners.
The next event at Quincy Raceways will be on Sunday, April 30 as the Budweiser
IMCA Late Models will be starting their point season. Gates open at 4 with Hot
Laps at 5:45 and racing at 6:30pm. Call the Quincy Raceways Hotline at
