McLaughlin, Foster, Birck and DeLonjay Get Wins at Quincy
Raceways
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, Il. (June 4, 2006) - McLaughlin took over the lead of the Budweiser IMCA
Late Model feature event from Denny Woodworth on a restart of lap twenty of the
thirty lap event. McLauglin then pulled to a comfortable lead to take his first
points win at Quincy this season. Woodworth held off Mark Burgtorf for the
second spot with Burgtorf in third, Tom Darbyshire in fourth and Billy
Genenbacher in fifth. Joey Gower, Kevin Tomlinson and Jerry Weisenberger were
the heat race winners with McLaughlin scoring the win in the Summy Tire and Auto
Center Trophy Dash.
Josh Foster dominated the Miller Lite IMCA Modified feature event by leading
from the fourth lap to the checkered flag on the twenty fifth lap. Foster
maintained his lead throughout numerous restarts with Henry DeLonjay challenging
Foster over the last half of the event but DeLonjay suffered mechanical problems
and retired from the event with five laps to go with a flat tire and broken rear
end. Foster then cruised to the win, his third in six point’s events this year.
Les Harding crossed the finish line in second but was disqualified in the tech
area after the event giving Danny Lake the second spot followed by Jeff Waterman
in third, Robbie Reed in fourth and Tony Dunker in fifth. DeLonjay, Dunker and
Terry Houston were the heat race winner with Reed taking the win in the P&S Auto
and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
The Bomber main event was a wild and wooly affair as most of the top runners had
problems early in the event and spent their races working towards the top of the
field but Adam Birck was the only one of the points leaders to have a good night
as he took his third feature win in six events. Birck came from his fifth row
starting spot to take the lead away form Gary Lewis on the last lap at the
finish line for a margin of victory of six inches. Lewis settled for the second
spot with Travis Booher in third, Larry Powell in fourth and Aaron Brocksieck in
fifth. Brocksieck, Powell and Lewis all scored heat race wins.
Steven DeLonjay picked up his first points feature win in the Hornets division
in an event that went without a caution flag in its fifteen lap length. DeLonjay
came from his fourth row starting spot to gain the lead from Joel Kerr on the
twelfth lap. Kerr crossed the finish line in second but was disqualified for a
non stock carburetor in the tech area. James Leffew, Darren Morgan, Levi Long
and Jake Powers rounded out the top five. Long and Kerr were the heat race
winners.
