Gallaher Takes Quincy Raceways IMCA Late Model Win
By Jack Walbring

QUINCY, IL (July 9, 2006) - Terry Gallaher made a statement in winning the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event Sunday night at Quincy Raceways. That statement was that he isn’t done quite yet. Gallaher started on the outside of the first row and had to battle with Nick Ingalls over the first eleven laps as the two diced back and forth for the top spot. Gallaher then held off the challenges of Robbie Warner as Ingalls began to fade back into the field. Warner kept the heat on Gallaher until Tom Darbyshire slid into the second spot on the sixteenth circuit. Gallaher and Darbyshire then battled fiercely over the final fourteen laps with lead being exchanged at least three times between the two before the checkered flag fell on lap thirty. Gallaher took the win, his first this season followed by Darbyshire in second, Mark Burgtorf in third, Warner in fourth and Justin Reed in fifth. Ingalls, Burgtorf and Kevin Tomlinson were the heat race winners with Burgtorf scoring the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Henry Delonjay took the lead of the Miller Lite IMCA Modified feature event on the eleventh lap from Wyatt Lance and pulled away for his fourth points win of the season. Delonjay dominated the field with Lance settling for second over Jim Roach in third, Robbie Reed in fourth and Robbie Carter in fifth. Danny Lake and Roach were the heat race winners with Lance taking home the hardware in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

Bruce Hatfield claimed his second feature win of the season in the twenty lap Bomber main event as he lead the final sixteen laps. Hatfield battled side by side with Larry Powell during the first third of the event but then held a strong advantage over the final sixteen circuits to take the win. Jerry Jansen took home second followed by Steve Carlin in third, Travis Booher in fourth and Adam Birck in fifth. Hatfield, Todd Reichert and Jarrod Richie were the heat race winners.

Sarah Woodhurst looked like she hard the car to beat in the Hornet feature after dominating the heat race but she did put on the show as she rolled her 8 Ball numbered car in the second turn of the first lap of the main event. Woodhurst jumped out of her car after the track safety crew rolled it over and proclaimed that the rollover was “fun” but I don’t thing it was fun for the car as she had to retire to the pits with damage. James Leffew then took over the top spot on the restart and held off Steven DeLonjay to the checkered flag to score his third feature win of the season in the Hornet division. DeLonjay came across the finish line in second but had trouble passing the post race technical inspection giving that spot up to Levi Long. The third spot went to Joel Kerr with Wes Fuller in fourth and Bill Winkle in fifth.

This weeks racing action at Quincy Raceways promises to be something really special as the UMP Summer Nationals comes to town for the very first time. The top stars of the “Hell Tour”” as it fondly referred to will compete in a 40 lap, $6000 to win, $500 to start event on Thursday, July 13.
