Quincy Raceways Ready to Host Stop #26 of the 2006 UMP Summer
Nationals
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY. IL (July 11) - Quincy Raceways has been trying for years to get a UMP
Summer Nationals race date and July 13, 2006 is the day those efforts will pay
off as the Summer Nationals will appear for the first ever at the quarter mile
bull ring in Quincy, Illinois. Bob and Jeff Scott and the track crew have been
feverously working to get the facility ready to host the biggest payday in the
tracks history. The track has been in great shape over the last few weeks with
multiple grooves being the norm rather than the exception. A $6000 winner share
is up for grabs in the forty lap main event as the stars of the tradition laden
series try their luck on the clay at Quincy for the first time.
Shannon Babb has been running rough shod over most of the tour with win number
eleven coming at LaSalle Speedway on Monday, July 10. Babb enjoys a comfortable
point’s lead followed by the likes of Wendell Wallace, Dennis Erb, Randy Korte,
Brian Shirley, Jeep Van Wormer, Kevin Weaver and many other dirt late model
standouts.
Quincy Raceways seats 2800 in concrete and aluminum grandstands that feature
seatbacks and a new pit grandstand with a seating capacity of 400. Extra
lighting and concession stands have been brought in to treat the fans to a very
special event. IMCA Modifieds and the Quincy Bombers will also be racing for
$500 and $300 to win. Adult ticket prices are $18, Seniors $16, Teens 11-15 $10
and kids 6 to 10 are $5, Pit Passes are $30. Quincy Raceways is located in
