Extreme Heat Doesn’t Cool Action At Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring

QUINCY, ILL (July 30, 2006) - The extreme heat on Sunday, July 30 at Quincy Raceways did nothin to cool off the action during Volunteer Fireman Night at the Races. Mark Burgtorf, David Wietholder, Adam Birck and Sara Woodhurst all took feature event wins as the track was boiled in the heat and humidity.

Mark Burgtorf scored his seventh points win and nineth win overall in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event but it took twenty eight laps of the thirty scheduled laps for Burgtorf to get to the top spot. Jerry Weisenberger looked like he would pick up his first win of the 2006 season as he inherited the lead after the top three leaders of the first three laps dropped back into the field after four yellow flags on the third circuit. Weisenberger then held off Joey Gower for the next twenty two circuits before Gower slipped back into third when Burgtorf drove past on the high side to take over the second spot on lap twenty five. Burgtorf set his sights on Weisenberger and pulled even for the lead on the twenty seventh lap and drove past to take over the lead on the next lap. Burgtorf then held Weisenberger at bay taking the win by a car length at the checkered flag. Weisenberger settled for a disappointing second place finish followed by Gower in third, Lonnie Bailey in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. Gower, Jamie Wilson and Nick Ingalls were the heat race winners with Justin Reed taking the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

The Miller Lite IMCA Modified feature event was a wild one as David Wietholder and Henry Delonjay raced side by side from the eighth lap until the twenty first lap when DeLonjay slipped up on the bottom of turns one and two giving Wietholder the break he needed to take his first points win of the year. Brandon Lennox scored the second spot with Robbie Reed in third, DeLonjay in fourth and Shawn Deering in fifth. Tony Dunker and Reed were the heat race winners with Dunker also taking home the hardware in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

Larry Powell led the first eighteen laps of the twenty lap Bomber feature event but it was Adam Birck taking the win at the checkered flag. Birck managed to get by Powell with a high line pass going to the white flag. Powell crossed the finish line in second but problems in the tech area moved Dusty Bingaman into second followed by Aaron Brocksieck in third, Travis Booher in fourth and Steve Carlin in fifth. Booher, Birck and Powell were the heat race winners.

Sara Woodhurst made it three feature wins in a row in the Hornet division after she battled past Darren Morgan on the tenth lap of the fifteen lap main event. Morgan challenged Woodhurst over the final five laps but was unable to regain the lead and even giving up second to James Leffew on the last lap. Morgan settled for third followed by Steven DeLonjay in fourth and Levi Long in fifth. Morgan claimed the win in the heat race.
