Hot Night Brings Hot Action to Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, ILL (Aug. 6, 2006) - Mark Burgtorf, Henry DeLonjay, Adam Birck and
Steven DeLonjay all picked up feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday,
August 6 during one very hot evening of racing action.
Kevin Tomlinson took over the lead on the second lap of the Budweiser IMCA Late
Model feature event and held onto the top spot with a sizable lead until a
caution flag on lap 15 brought the field to his heals. Tomlinson held the lead
for the next two laps but Mark Burgtorf began to work his magic on the high side
by passing eight cars in two circuits to take the lead on lap eighteen. Burgtorf
pulled away after gaining the top spot to take the checkered flag and his eighth
points feature win of the season followed by Nick Ingalls in second, Denny
Woodworth in third, Lonnie Bailey in fourth and Matt Bailey in fifth. Woodworth,
Ron Elbe and Robby Warner were the heat race winners with Woodworth also taking
the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Burgtorf now holds a
seemingly insurmountable one hundred seven point advantage over Woodworth in the
points race.
Henry DeLonjay grabbed his sixth feature event win in the Miller Lite IMCA
Modified division. Danny Lake led the first ten circuits but bad luck struck his
efforts on the eleventh lap giving DeLonjay the only break he needed as the
multi-time track champion cruised to the checkered flag. Robbie Reed grabbed the
second spot over Tony Dunker in third, Jeff Waterman in fourth and Brandon
Savage in fifth. Reed and DeLonjay were the heat race winners with Dunker taking
home the hardware in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
DeLonjay now holds a thirteen point advantage over Reed in the points battle.
Adam Birck clawed his way into the lead of the bomber main event on the ninth
lap and held off the challenges of Jarrod Richie over the last nine laps to take
home his fifth points feature event win of the season. Travis Booher, Eddie
Dieker and Steve Carlin rounded out the top five spots. Bruce Hatfield, Carlin
and Dieker were the heat race winners. Carlin now holds a nine point advantage
over Birck in the points chase.
Steven DeLonjay is proving the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree by taking
his fourth feature win of the season in the Hornet Division. James Leffew
grabbed second followed by Sarah Woodhurst, Jake Powers and Joel Kerr. DeLonjay
also took the heat race win. DeLonjay now holds a very slim three point
advantage over Leffew in the race to the first Hornet track points championship.
