Woodworth Captures UMP Late Model Win at Quincy’s Kenny
Schrader Night
by: Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (June 12) - Denny Woodworth put on the show as the racing lawyer
made a clean sweep of all the racing events he participated in. Woodworth first
collected a heat race win then backed that up with a win in the Dash for Cash
that set the field for the thirty five lap UMP Late Model Main event. Woodworth
then made good use of the pole position start in the main event and went on to
lead all thirty five laps of the main event. Woodworth was followed by Chad
Pratt for the first twenty five laps of the feature but Kenny Schrader worked
his way through traffic into the second spot on the twenty fifth lap. Schrader
then began to reel in Woodworth but it was to no avail as Woodworth kept
Schrader at bay until the checkered flag fell. Schrader settled for second
followed by Chad Pratt in third, Ed Dixon in fourth and Mike Hammerle in fifth.
Schrader and Keith Pratt took the wins in the other two heat races.
Kenny Wallace was schedule to compete in the Mille Lite Modified action but a
scheduling problem kept him from getting a flight into Quincy due to a testing
date for his Furniture Row Nextel Cup program. Wallace phoned in to do an
interview during the intermission and said he was truly disappointed to not be
able to compete at the Quincy Raceways track where he worked as a crewman during
his teenage years for his brother Mike Wallace and Steve Fraise.
Henry DeLonjay took the lead of the Miller Lite Modified feature event at the
drop of the green flag a survived out front of the field for twenty four of the
scheduled twenty five lap main event. DeLonjay even held the lead until the
final turn as the most dominate driver of the season at Quincy, Michael Long
pulled past by a fender at the checkered flag. DeLonjay settled for second
followed by Tony Dunker in third, Brandon Lennox in fourth and Joe Bliven in
fifth. Long, Austin Jones and Dunker were the heat race winners with DeLonjay
taking the win in the Dash for Cash.
Steve Carlin bounced back from some really bad outings during the last two races
at Quincy by winning both his heat race and feature in the Hobby Stock division.
Carlin lead every lap of the fifteen lapper to take a comfortable win over
Travis Kelle in second, Aaron Brocksieck in third, Bruce Hatfield in fourth and
Brent Chapman in fifth. Chapman scored the other heat race win for the Hobby
Stocks.
