Lonnie Bailey Takes Quincy Raceways IMCA Late Model Win
by: Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (July 08) - Lonnie Bailey, Michael Long, Steve Carlin and Steven
DeLonjay all took feature event wins during Miller Beer/Mississippi Belle
Distributing Night at the Races on Sunday, July 9 at Quincy Raceways.
Jason Perry grabbed the lead of the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature
event at the drop of the green flag and looked to be well on his way to his
first feature event win but it just was not to be. Perry held the top position
through a couple of yellow flag periods but Lonnie Bailey was on a mission as
the tenth place started had worked his way into second by the eleventh circuit.
Bailey worked on getting past Perry for several laps then managed to get the job
done on the eighteenth lap. Bailey then had his hands full holding off Jason
Frankel over the last ten circuits. Bailey held on to take the win, his second
of the season over Frankel in second, Mark Burgtorf in third, Perry in fourth
and Terry Gallaher in fifth. Frankel, Ron Elbe and Dustin Neese were the heat
race winners while Burgtorf took the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center
Trophy Dash Series. Burgtorf now holds a thirty four point margin over Bailey in
point’s championship battle.
Michael Long continued to work his magic at Quincy Raceways by grabbing up his
seventh points paying feature event win in the Miller Lite Modifieds but it was
not as easy as leading from green to checkered. Long was caught up in an early
lap multiple car incident sending him to the hot pits to change a tire. Long
returned to the fray on the restart and began his quest to get to the front of
the field. Tony Dunker had gotten into the lead on the eleventh lap but Long
charged past to take the top spot away on the sixteenth circuit. Long then held
Dunker at bay until the checkered flag fell. Dunker settled for second followed
by Henry DeLonjay in third, Brandon Lennox in fourth and Joe Bliven in fifth.
DeLonjay, Robbie Carter and Jared Schlipman all took heat race wins while Lennox
scored the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash. Long now holds a fifteen
point advantage over DeLonjay in the point’s battle.
Steve Carlin continued his dominance in the Hobby Stock division by taking his
sixth feature event win of the season. Rookie Louis Goodwin lead the first
sixteen laps but Carlin slipped past to take the lead on lap seventeen and held
on for the rest of the twenty laps. Goodwin settled for second followed by Aaron
Brocksieck in third, Travis Booher in fourth and Michael Lay in fifth. Goodwin
and Bobby Anders were the heat race winners. Todd Reichert now holds a ten point
margin over Carlin in the point’s battle.
Steven DeLonjay took the win in the Hornet feature event in spectacular fashion
as he powered by Levi Long on the last corners going the checkered flag.
DeLonjay took his third feature event win over Long in second, Jordan DeLonjay
Rice in third, Bill Winkle in fourth and Rodney Prewitt in fifth. DeLonjay and
Cody Houseweart were the heat race winners.
