Frankel Grabs Quincy IMCA Late Model Win
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, Il (July 15) - Jason Frankel, Henry Delonjay, Steve Carlin and Steven
DeLonjay all grabbed feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, July 15
during Installs Unlimited Night at the Races.
Jason Frankel returned to the Quincy Raceways quarter mile only three weeks ago
but the time off sure has not hindered his racing abilities as he has scored
very some very impressive results so far. Frankel started the thirty lap
Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event in the seventh row and steadily worked his
way thought the field to challenge Terry Gallaher for the lead on the sixteenth
circuit. Frankel tried high and low stayed with the veteran Gallaher until
making his efforts pay off coming off turn two on the twenty ninth lap. Frankel
made the pass stick and wound up at the checkered flag three quarters of a
second before Gallaher in second.
Mark Burgtorf scored third followed by Jason Perry in fourth and Ron Elbe in
fifth. Burgtorf and Elbe were the heat race winners while Burgtorf took the win
in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Mark Burgtorf is dominating the
points chase with a forty three point lead over Lonnie Bailey, 440 to 397.
The big news in the Miller Lite Modified division was the feature event win by
Henry DeLonjay. DeLonjay worked his way to the top spot from his fifth row
starting spot on the tenth lap after a multitude of caution flags over the
opening laps of the main event. DeLonjay then held off all challengers to take
his third feature event of the year. Michael Long suffered mechanical problems
on the first lap and dropped out from the event giving DeLonjay the opportunity
to close the points battle to a single point, 477 to 476. Following DeLonjay to
the checkered flag were Robbie Reed in second, Wyatt Lance in third, Tony Dunker
in fourth and Brandon Lennox in fifth. Dunker, Jared Schlipman and Long were the
heat race winners while Lennox scored the checkered flag in the Advance Trading
Trophy Dash.
Steve Carlin kept up his dominance in the Hobby Stock class by scoring his
seventh points paying feature event win in twelve attempts. Jarrod Richie
followed Carlin to second with Todd Reichert in third, Travis Booher in fourth
and Aaron Brocksieck in fifth. Reichert and Carlin took the heat race wins.
Carlin now has cut Reichert’s points lead to a slim eight markers, 467 to 459.
Steven DeLonjay followed up his fathers modified win with his own feature win in
the Hornet main event. DeLonjay took the win, his fourth of the year and pulled
within eight points of Levi Long in the points battle. Joe Gollaher took third
followed by Long in third, Bill Winkle in fourth and Jordan DeLonjay Rice in
fifth.
