Burgtorf Takes Quincy Raceways IMCA Late Model Checkered Flag
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (July 22) - Mark Burgtorf, Michael Long, Steve Carlin and Zack
Bruenger all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways during Heetco Night at
the Races on Sunday, July 22.
Robby Warner took the early lead of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model thirty lap
main event at the drop of the green flag and looked like he may be the man to
beat in only his second race back after recovering from a broken wrist. Warner
pulled away from the field and held as much as a straight lead over the first
twenty laps. Mark Burgtorf had other ideas as he slowly worked his way to the
front of the field to challenge for the lead on the sixteenth lap. Burgtorf
closed in on Warner and on the twentieth lap made his move on the bottom of the
fourth turn to take over the number one position. Burgtorf then pulled out to a
three second lead at the checkered flag to take his third points feature win of
the season. Warner settled for second with Dustin Neese in third, Justin Reed in
fourth and Terry Gallaher in fifth. Burgtorf, Warner and Nick Ingalls were the
heat race winners with Dustin Neese grabbing the win in the Summy Tire and Auto
Center Trophy Dash. Burgtorf now holds a fifty four point margin over Lonnie
Bailey in the points battle.
Michael Long did everything he needed to do to maintain his slim margin over
Henry DeLonjay in the Miller Lite Modified division points race. Long took over
the lead in the twenty five lap main event on the seventh circuit and held
DeLonjay at bay to take his eighth points race feature event win of the season.
DeLonjay held on for second followed by Robbie Reed in third, Tony Dunker in
fourth and David Wietholder in fifth. Long and DeLonjay both won heat races as
Long now hold a two point advantage over DeLonjay. Robbie Reed took the
checkered flag in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.
The Hobby Stock feature event was slam bang affair as several incidents led to a
time limited event as only eight cars finished the eleven laps completed before
the checkered flag fell. Steve Carlin got yet another feature event win, his
eighth of the season to cut Todd Reichert’s points lead to just three markers as
Reichert was eliminated from the race after a hard crash and rollover involving
James Leffew and himself on the front stretch. Reichert and Leffew were
uninjured but the same could not be said of their racecars. Carlin took the win
over Jarrod Richie in second, Chris Rees in third, Travis Kelle in fourth and
Mike Wiley in fifth. Reichert and Bobby Anders were the heat race winners.
Zach Bruenger redeemed himself from last weeks hard crash in the Hornet division
feature event as he managed to hold off several serious challenges for the top
spot. The win was the first ever for Bruenger as he held off Levi Long at the
checkered flag. Third went to Steven DeLonjay followed by Bill Winkle in fourth
and Cody Houseweart in fifth. Jordan DeLonjay Rice and Cousin Steven DeLonjay
were the heat race winners. Long now holds a seven point lead over Steven
DeLonjay in the points race.
