Frankel Takes Quincy IMCA Late Model Win
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (Aug 12) - Jason Frankel, Michael Long, Todd Reichert and Levi Long
all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways during Budweiser/Rinella
Distributing Night at the Races on Sunday, August 12.
Joey Gower took the early lead in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event and
looked like he might just get his first feature win of the season but a lap
eighteen caution flag spelled his doom as Jason Frankel was able to pull up to
his rear bumper after Gower lead by as much as a straight away. Frankel powered
by Gower on lap nineteen and took off into a comfortable lead with Mark Burgtorf
getting by Gower a lap latter. Frankel and Burgtorf pulled away from the field
over the last ten laps with Burgtorf closing the gap to Frankel. Burgtorf even
with Frankel on turn four of lap twenty eight but was unable to make the pass.
Frankel then pulled ahead of Burgtorf by 1.383 seconds at the checkered flag to
claim his second win of the season at Quincy and his second of the weekend as he
also won at 34 Raceway on Saturday night. The third spot went to Kevin Tomlinson
followed by Gower in fourth and Ron Elbe in fifth. Keith Pratt, Sam Halstead and
Elbe were the heat race winners while Jerry Weisenberger took home the hardware
in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Burgtorf now holds an 85 point
margin over Lonnie Bailey.
Michael Long continued his dominance in the Miller Lite Modified division as he
captured his thirteenth main event and his eleventh points feature win of the
season at Quincy. Long started the main event in the in the fourth row and it
took him only five laps to get to the front of the field. Long then set sail
lapping cars up to fourth place until the checkered flag fell on lap twenty
five. Henry DeLonjay settled for the second spot followed by Robbie Reed in
third, Les Harding in fourth and Rob Carter in fifth. Frankie Wellman Jr. and
Long were the heat race winners with DeLonjay taking the win in the Advance
Trading Trophy Dash. Long now holds a fourteen point advance over DeLonjay with
only two points nights remaining in the 2007 season.
Todd Reichert made his way to the front of the Hobby Stock feature field when
several incidents brought the early leaders to the rear during caution flags.
Reichert held off Steve Carlin and Aaron Brocksieck to take his second feature
win of the points season. Brocksieck settled for second followed by Carlin in
third, Louis Goodwin in fourth and Travis Kelle in fifth. Andrew Griffin and
Bobby Anders were the heat race winners. Reichert’s win now gives him a fourteen
point lead over Carlin in his quest for his first ever Track Points
Championship.
Levi Long grabbed the lead away from Lew Aikman on the sixth lap of the Hornet
main event and managed to hold Aikman at bay until the checkered flag fell. Long
fended off Aikman’s final charge on the last two corners of the fifteenth lap
main event and took his fifth feature win of the year. Aikman settled for second
followed by Steven DeLonjay in third, Jordan DeLonjay-Rice in fourth and Bill
Winkle in fifth. DeLonjay and DeLonjay-Rice were the heat race winners. Long now
holds a slim two point advantage over Steven DeLonjay in the points race.
