Quincy sanctions IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in 2008
By Bill Martin, IMCA Public Relations
QUINCY, Ill. (Oct. 12) – A second full-bodied IMCA division joins Sunday night
programs at Quincy Raceway beginning next season. The first points races for
IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at the 3/10 mile speedplant will be in April. Sanctioned
Late Models are also on the weekly card at Quincy.
“The Stock Cars put on pretty good shows and the fans like them,”
said co-promoter Mike Karhoff, noting that area drivers will have the
opportunity to race three times a week, on Fridays at Lee County Speedway in
Donnellson, Iowa, and Saturdays at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. “I think
they’ll enjoy watching them run here.”
New lighting is also in the plans for 2008, following on the heels of a new PA
system installed this summer and consider able work on the racing surface after
the final race of 2007. “We lengthened the track 35 feet on each end and widened
the corners,” Karhoff said. “Cars can easily run three wide and drivers don’t
have to be concerned about running into each other.”
Stock Car points earned at Quincy, as well as Lee County and 34 Raceway, will
figure toward Jet Racing Northern Region standings.
