Quincy Raceways Looking Forward to 2008 Racing Season By Jack Walbring QUINCY, IL (Mar 23) - Quincy Raceways is looking forward to an exciting 2008 racing season with lots of great weekly racing action and several Special Events to spice up the year. The partnership of Mike Karhoff and Tony Rhinberger that operated the Quincy Raceways quarter mile during the 2008 season has officially ended with Tony Rhinberger completing the buyout of Mike Karhoff’s portion of the partnership on Friday, March 14. Rhinberger said in a Quincy Herald Whig interview that the 2007 season was a learning experience and that the coming season will continue to be that as well. Rhinberger says that he is excited to see the 2008 season approach and believes that Quincy Raceways is well on its way to providing a great Motorsports entertainment value. Rhinberger expects the 2008 weekly racing season to start at Quincy Raceways with opening night on March 30 depending upon how Mother Nature acts. The opening night on March 30 will not be a points race night for any of the classes competing, including the Budweiser IMCA Late Models, the Miller Lite Modifieds, the newly sanctioned Triple R Performance IMCA Stock Cars and the Hobby Stocks. Practice nights have been scheduled for Tuesday March 25 and Thursday March 27 pending weather conditions. Racers should call the Quincy Raceways Hotline at 217-224-4100 to check the status of any scheduled event or check out the newly redesigned Quincy Raceways Website at www.quincyraceways.com for information. The IMCA Stock Cars will now have three track in the immediate are to compete and earn points at with Lee County Speedway on Friday nights and 34 Raceway in Burlington on Saturday nights. The addition of the IMCA Stock Cars to the Quincy Raceways lineup brought about the end of the four cylinder Hornet class that never caught on. The Quincy Raceways Miller Lite Modified division sees a few rules changes for the 2008 season to help bring in more cars to compete. The tire rule has been opened up to allow two of the three UMP legal tires, the A-40 and the H-40 as well as the IMCA Hoosier G60 – 15 or the American Racer G60 OR KK 704. Also the Quincy Raceways Modifieds may now use a steel tube quick change rear-end which is now legal for UMP Modifieds. The Quincy Raceways quarter mile racetrack saw some serious changes over the off season as the track was reshaped to widen the track corners and push them out to lengthen the track to just shy of three tenths of a mile. A new Pit Gate Building has been constructed and will be ready for use by opening night. The track lighting situation will be improved immediately with the addition of portable lights to increase the amount of light on the track surface. A complete overhaul of the lighting at Quincy Raceways is in the planning stages with improvements being planned for the track, pit and staging area, grandstands and parking areas. The complete overhaul of the lighting may not happen during the 2008 season but should be in place by 2009. Ticket prices will remain the same for the 2008 Sunday night racing season at Quincy Raceways with an addition of a new money saving Family Ticket that will cost $25 for a family of two adults, two teens(11-15) and two children(6-10) which would cost $30 if purchased separately.
