Kenny Schrader Gets Victory in NASCAR Night at Quincy
Raceways
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (June 10) - Kenny Schrader took home the loot in the Miller Lite
Modified main event during NASCAR Night at Quincy Raceway on Tuesday, June
10. Schrader started the night out by taking the win in his heat race then
followed that up with a third place finish in the Fast Dash. The main event
for the modifieds found Michael Long on the pole for the twenty five lapper.
Long jumped out to an early lead and looked like he had the event in hand
until mechanical problems sidelined the almost unbeatable #18 on the
fourteenth lap. Schrader had kept in contact with Long and used his
misfortune to his advantage to charge into the lead followed by Steve Arpin.
Arpin put the pressure on Schrader but a broken drive shaft sidelined his
efforts giving the second spot over to Jared Schlipman. The young Schlipman
managed to stay in contact with the veteran Schrader but an incident coming
to the white flag sent Schlipman and Steven DeLonjay to the pits. Schrader
held off Wyatt Lance and Robbie Reed to take his first Miller Lite Modified
feature event win at Quincy followed by Lance in second, Reed in third, Tony
Dunker in fourth and Joe Bliven in fifth. Steve Arpin and Michael Long took
the other heat race wins with Long taking the win in the fast dash.
The UMP Late Model division may have been short on cars but the main
event had tons of action and a very dramatic finish. Denny Woodworth and
Mark Burgtorf laid claim to the heat race wins as both powered away from the
other competitors. Burgtorf laid claim to the the win in the fast dash over
Ed Dixon and Woodworth which set up the feature event lineup that looked
like it could be a battle royal to the checkered flag at the end of thirty
laps. Dixon jumped to the early lead with Burgtorf and Woodworth laying
chase as Dixon slowly built a comfortable margin over the field. Dixon’s car
began to show signs of overheating during a caution period at the waning
laps but Ed was able to retain the lead and slightly build it up during the
closing laps but it just was not going to be his night as his engine gave up
coming off turn four going for the checkered flag giving Burgtorf just
enough time to take the win by a mere four tenths of a second. Dixon rolled
across the finish line for second followed by Woodworth in third, Chuck
Mitchell in fourth and Roger Brickler in fifth.
Travis Booher took home the extra money in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby
Stock event by leading every lap of during the twenty five lap main event.
Booher had the field well in hand for the feature event which ended up with
only five cars running at the checkered flag. James Leffew grabbed second
followed by Jim Powell in third, Aaron Brocksieck in fourth and Justin Bartz
in fifth. Leffew and Wes Mayfield were the heat race winners.
