Terry Neal Grabs $3000 Payday at Quincy Raceways Titan Tire &
Wheel Shootout
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (June 29) - Terry Neal made the trip to Quincy Raceways from Ely,
Iowa pay off big time as he claimed the $3000 winner check in the second
largest paying J&J Steel IMCA Late Model race of the season in the Titan
Tire and Wheel Shootout on Sunday, June 29. Neal started the fifty lap main
event in the fourth row and quickly got to the top spot on the sixth lap.
Neal then held off Jason Frankel until Mark Burgtorf took over the second
position on the fourteenth lap. Burgtorf then proceeded to put the pressure
on Neal closely followed by Frankel as the three battled tooth and nail for
the lead. Burgtorf began to faultier on the forty fifth lap letting Frankel
by for second. Neal took advantage of the situation and increased his lead
to almost two seconds as the checkered flag fell on lap fifty. Frankel
settled for second with Burgtorf in third, Justin Reed in fourth and Tom
Goble in fifth. Gobel, Lonnie Bailey and Neal were the heat race winners
over the 27 car field. Andy Nezworski took the B-Main win with Neal also
taking home the cash and trophy in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy
Dash. Jason Frankel increased his lead in the points chase to nine over
Justin Reed and ten over Lonnie Bailey.
Michael Long took home yet another feature event win in the Miller Lite
Modified division but it was not as easy as it may have been in the past
events. Long started in the sixth row and it took him ten laps this week to
gain the lead of the twenty five lap main event. Wyatt Lance made his
presence known as he battled furiously to stay with Long over the final
fifteen circuits and managed to keep the gap to a little over a second at
the checkered flag on lap twenty five. Steven DeLonjay scored third, with
Vance Wilson in fourth and Jeff Waterman in fifth. David Wietholder, Long
and Jared Schlipman were the heat race winners with Wietholder taking the
win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash. Long now has stretched his advantage
in the points race to 21 over Tony Dunker.
John Oliver Jr. eked out a narrow victory in the Triple Performance Engines
Sunoco IMCA Stock Car main event over Jeff Mueller. The third spot went to
Doug Huls over Andrew Griffin in fourth and Chris Wibbell in fifth. Oliver
is only the second driver to win a feature event in the closely matched
division and now holds a slim one point advantage over Wibbell in the quest
for the inaugural track points championship.
Jim Powell looked like the man to beat in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock
main event but Aaron Brocksieck had other ideas. Powell led the first
seventeen circuits of the twenty lapper and held off a pesky James Leffew in
doing so. Brocksieck started the main event in the fifth row and patiently
worked his way to the lead by passing both Powell and Leffew on the
eighteenth lap. Brocksieck then held off Powell for the win on the twentieth
lap. Powell settled for second with Leffew in third, Travis Booher in fourth
and Steve Carlin in fifth. Carlin and Leffew were the heat race winners.
Coming up next at Quincy Raceways will be Advance Trading Night at the races
featuring at special $1000 to win event for the top twelve drivers in the
point standings. Gates open at 4 with hot laps at 6 and racing action at
6:30pm.
Then on Tuesday, June 8 it is the annual visit of the UMP Summer Nationals

Mods will be racing for $500 to win and the Tim’s Machine Shop will be going
