Frankel Strengthens Points Lead at Quincy Raceways By Jack Walbring QUINCY, IL (August 10) - Jason Frankel, Robbie Reed, Michael Long, David Wietholder and James Leffew all picked up feature event win during the Speedway Motors Weekly IMCA Racing Series sponsored by Budweiser/Rinella Distributing on Sunday, August 10. Sam Halstead took the lead of the Budweiser J&J Steel IMCA Late Model feature event at the drop of the green flag and pulled out to a comfortable lead until Jason Frankel made his way through the field from his fifth row starting spot. Frankel closed up to Halstead at the half way mark of the thirty lapper and pulled past for the lead on lap sixteen. Frankel then raced to the checkered flag unimpeded to grab his third points win of the season at Quincy Raceways. Nick Ingalls worked his way to the second spot at the checkered flag followed by Mark Burgtorf in third, Halstead in fourth and Keith Pratt and fifth. Billy Genenbacher, Ingalls and Robbie Warner were the heat race winners with Jason Perry scoring the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Frankel's feature win now puts him up by fifteen points over Mark Burgtorf in his quest for his first Quincy Raceways Track Points Championship with only two points race left in the 2008 season. Michael Long started his race night in his usual fashion by getting yet another feature event win in the Miller Lite Modifieds by taking the checkered flag first in the rain delayed July 27 Make Up Feature event. Long started the event in his usual sixth row starting spot and got the lead on the thirteenth lap. Long opened up a four second lead over Shawn Deering at the checkered flag. Tony Dunker, David Wietholder and Robbie Reed rounded out the top five in the make up event. The regular main event was not going to very kind to Long as a sixth lap crash put him on the hook of the wrecker ending his night. Adam Birck had taken the lead at the waving of the green flag and held on to the top spot until eighth lap when Robbie Reed charged past. Reed went on the lead the rest of the twenty five laps to take his second points win of the year followed by Steven DeLonjay in second, Justin Reed in third, Tony Dunker in fourth and Birck in fifth. Robbie Reed, Dunker and Long took the heat race wins as Robbie Reed made it a clean sweep for his night by also taking the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash. Long’s bad fortune in the main event allowed Tony Dunker to take a six point lead in the point’s chase with only two points race nights left. David Wietholder took over the lead in the Triple R Performance Engines Sunoco IMCA Stock Car main event on the eleventh lap of the twenty lapper and held off points leader Chris Wibbell to claim his third feature event win. Wibbell settled for second followed by John Oliver Jr. in third, Jason Cook in fourth and Doug Huls in fifth. Kale Foster and Rusty Tobias were the heat race winners. Wibbell now holds a slim four point margin over Jeff Mueller as Mueller had performance issues throughout the race night. James Leffew took his fourth feature event win of the season in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock division by leading the final fifteen circuits of the twenty lap event. Bobby Anders Jr. scored second followed by Aaron Brocksieck in third, Steve Carlin in fourth and Steven Watkins in fifth. Brocksieck and Anders took the heat race wins. Brocksieck now holds a fourteen point advantage over Wes Mayfield as Mayfield suffered mechanical problems in the main event.
