Four New Feature Winners at Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring

QUINCY, IL (June 14) - There were four new faces in Victory Lane at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, June 14 as Mike Wiley, Aaron Brocksieck, Wyatt Lantz and Tom Goble all picked up feature event wins during Kelly’s Tower of Pizza Night at the Races.

Nick Ingalls and Ron Elbe started the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event on the front row and put on quite a battle for the first fourteen laps of the thirty lapper but Tom Goble had his sights on the prize at the end of the event. Goble charged around Ingalls on lap 15 then around Elbe on lap sixteen into the lead position. Goble then held off the furious charges of Justin Reed until lap twenty eight but Goble did not let up. Spiderman stayed the course, regaining the lead on lap 29 and crossed the finish line first by a margin of a little over a tenth of a second taking his first ever IMCA Late Model feature win at Quincy. Reed settled for the second spot followed by Lonnie Bailey in third, Mark Burgtorf in fourth and Elbe in fifth. Elbe, Robby Warner and Ingalls were the heat race winners with Warner grabbing the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

The Miller Lite UMP Modified main event saw the winner come from deep in the field as a poor heat race finish forced Wyatt Lantz to come from the B-Main. Lantz started the A Main in the eighth row and worked his way through a couple of early race me leys to the battle for the top spot. Lantz caught Steven DeLonjay on the ninth lap and used patience over the next four laps to take the lead on lap thirteen. Lantz then kept DeLonjay at bay the rest of the way to the checkered flag to take his first UMP Modified Feature event win. DeLonjay settled for second followed by Ryan Meyer in third, Donovan Lodge in fourth and Chris Spalding in fifth. Vance Wilson, Tony Dunker and Meyer were the heat race winners with Justin Reed taking the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.

The caution flag flew way too many times in the usually very stable Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car main event but it did not detract from the battle that raged in the final few laps of the event. Abe Huls got the lead from Kevin Tomlinson on the eleventh lap and looked to the shoe in for the win but a late caution flag for an incident between Levi Long and Chris Wibbell set up a green white checkered finish. Aaron Brocksieck used it to his advantage by charging by Huls on the final lap on the high line to take the win by a mere .189 of a second for his first IMCA Stock Car feature event win. Huls settled second followed by Jerry Jansen in third, Andrew Griffin in fourth and Sarah Woodhurst in fifth. Abe Huls and Steve Steinkuhler were the heat race winners.

Mike Wiley used the opportunity he was presented with to a great ending in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock feature event. Steve Carlin and Jim Powell battled a little too hard for the lead on lap seventeen with both suffering the consequences giving the lead to Wiley with three laps to go. Wiley then took advantage of the situation and holding off Nathan Hayes for his first ever feature event win. Hayes held on for second followed by Larry Powell in third, Stephen Watkins Jr. in fourth and Andrew Griffin in fifth. Justin Bartz and Wiley were the heat race winners.
