QUINCY, IL (July 5) - Jason Frankel, Vance Wilson, Terry Houston and Steve Carlin all claimed feature event wins during the annual Pepsi Mid Season Championships at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, July 5. Sam Halstead started on the front row of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event and led the first sixteen laps but Jason Frankel charged through the field from his fifth row starting spot to take over on lap seventeen. Frankel then pulled out to a comfortable lead of about three seconds as Denny Woodworth charged through the field as well. Woodworth caught up to Halstead with two laps to go and took the spot as the white flag flew. Frankel got the checkered flag, his third of the year followed by Woodworth in second, Halstead in third, Joey Gower in fourth and Lonnie Bailey in fifth. Jerry Weisenberger, Frankel and Woodworth claimed the heat race wins as Lonnie Bailey took the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash Series. Vance Wilson took command of the Miller Lite UMP Modified Pepsi Mid Season Championship feature on the fourth lap and looked like he might just pull away but several caution periods kept the field bunched up. Wyatt Lance came from his fifth row starting spot to begin to challenge Wilson on the twelfth circuit. Lance worked diligently to get past Wilson but was turned back every time. Steven DeLonjay blew an engine in his heat race, but with the help of his father and crew was able to get it changed in time to start the feature event from the tenth row. DeLonjay slowly worked his way through the field and grabbed the second spot from Lance on the final lap with Lance settling for third. Tony Dunker and Ryan Meyer rounded out the top five spots. Lantz, Wilson and Donovan Lodge took the heat race wins with David Wietholder recovering from a heat race roll over to grab the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash. Sarah Woodhurst took the early lead in the Triple Performance Engines Pepsi Mid Season Championship feature event as the green flag flew and held onto it until Terry Houston took over on the fifth lap. Houston then held back the challenges of Andrew Griffin and Kevin Tomlinson to take his class leading third feature event win of the year. Tomlinson had to settle for second followed by Andrew Griffin in third, Abe Huls in fourth and Steve Steinkuhler in fifth. Woodhurst and Houston were the heat race winners. Steve Carlin may have led every lap of the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock feature event but he had to hold off a very persistent Wes Mayfield to take the win. Mayfield kept the pressure on throughout the event but had to settle for the second position followed by Jim Powell in third, James Leffew in fourth and Mike Wiley in fifth. Bobby Anders and Mayfield were the heat race winners. Coming up next at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, July 12 is the Advance Trading Night at the Races featuring the River City Rumble for the Miller Lite UMP Modifieds. The Pit Gates open at 4, Grandstands at 5, Hot Laps at 6 and Racing Action at 6:30pm.
