Woodworth, Hull, Long, Masengarb and Anders Take Labor Day Extravaganza Wins at Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring

QUINCY, IL (Sept. 6) - Denny Woodworth, Jerrod Hull, Michael Long, Jason Masengarb and Bobby Anders Jr. all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, September 6 during Rick’s Transit Repair Night at the Races.

The “Racing Lawyer” Denny Woodworth took the lead of the 50 lap Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models feature event from Jason Perry on the fourth circuit and powered away to his second ever Deery Brothers feature event win at Quincy Raceways. Woodworth had his way for the majority of the event and survived a pair of caution periods in taking the win. The second spot was hotly contested throughout the event with Jason Perry, Darrel DeFrance, Mark Burgtorf and Justin Reed swapping the second through fifth spots on almost every lap during the last ten circuits. Burgtorf closed the deal for second on the final lap followed DeFrance in third, Reed in fourth and Perry in fifth. Burgtorf, Criss, Perry and Gary Russell were the heat race winners with Jeff Aikey and Jason Frankel gathering up the B-Main wins.
The Midwest All-Star Sprints Series set four new track records during qualifying with AJ Bruns finally setting the record for 410 Winged Sprints at 11.197 seconds over three tenths quicker than Danny Smith’s 11.555 record from a year ago.

Jerrod Hull made quick work in getting to the lead of the thirty lap main event by passing Alex Shanks on turn four of the first lap. Hull looked like he would cruise to the victory but several caution flags brought the field to Hull’s rear bumper keeping the field bunched up. The caution periods also gave Jimmy Moughan the breaks he need to come from deep in the field to challenge Hull for the lead over the six laps. Moughan used the high line to challenge Hull for the lead and even was scored in the lead on the twenty sixth lap. Hull did not budge from his low line and Moughan lost his momentum as the high line’s traction gave up as the checkered flag fell. Hull won by a little over two seconds followed by Moughan in second, Kody Kinser in third, Alex Shanks in fourth and Ben Wagoner in fifth. Miranda Throckmorton, Jimmy Hurley and Kody Kinser were the heat race winners with Hull scoring the win in the dash.

Michael Long continued his dominance over the Miller Lite UMP Modified division at Quincy in the twenty five lap main event. Long started outside the second row and took the lead from Steven DeLonjay on the third lap. Long survived several yellow flag period to grab the win over Vance Wilson, Steven DeLonjay, Jared Schlipman and Donovan Lodge. The heat race wins went to Long, Lodge and Robbie Reed.

Jason Masengarb made it two for two in his appearances in the Mod Lite/Dwarf Cars at Quincy. Masengarb took the lead from Jeff Raffurty on the second lap from his outside front row starting spot and held Robert Toland Jr. at bay for the rest of the fifteen lap main event that went from green flag to checkered with out a yellow flag. Masengarb lead at the checkered flag was a little of eight tenths of a second followed by Toland in second, Jeff Raffurty in third, Mike Kennedy in fourth and Greg Russell in fifth. Robert Toland Jr. and David Raffurty were the heat race winners.

Bobby Anders J. made a shambles of the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby stocks by leading every lap of both his heat race and the main event. Anders bested Brandon Symmonds in second, Jim Powell in third, Jeremy Pundt in fourth and Jim Lynch in fifth. Jim Powell took the other heat race victory.

Sunday, September 13 will find the 2009 race season at Quincy Raceways come to a close with Yellow Book and Selby Implement Company bringing the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders to town to close out the season.
