Rogerson Leads Invaders to Lee County, Spoon River Have Helmet-Bag, will Travel…
By Jake Croxton

BURLINGTON, Ia (April 19, 2006) – The Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders get back to business, as Lee County Speedway and Spoon River Speedway will host a weekend double-dip for rounds two and three on the 2006 tour.

Jeff Mitrisin returns to the Lee County Fairgrounds oval, where he last visited victory lane in the 2005 finale. After a strong second place run in the 34 Raceway opener, the artist known as “The Magician” will look to repeat the feat. Hot Laps begin at 7 p.m., with the first race at 7:30.

From Donnellson, the Invaders take a day off before moving to Spoon River Speedway for the Second Annual DQ Clash, presented by Dairy Queen of Sherman and Petersburg. The Brian Thompson-promoted show will roll off with Hot Laps at 4 p.m. and racing to follow at 5 p.m. Bobby Mincer and Bobby Hawks won the only previous Spoon River events in 2002.
Matt Rogerson will carry a short-lived points lead into the weekend. After piloting Bobby Mincer’s mount to the opening round win, the Burlington, Iowa veteran will return to his planned perch on the sidelines.

“I was kinda nervous about tearing up somebody else’s equipment,” commented Rogerson. “I hadn’t been in the seat since last September…It might be the only race I get to run this season.” Rogerson sold off his operation at the conclusion of 2005, of which only an old 410 engine remains.

“I think (Hawks) was better in three and four but I could roll one and two better than he could,” continued Rogerson. “We were evenly matched. Bobby’s a good hard clean racer and I tried to do the same with him.”

Four of the last five 34 Raceway events have seen Matt Rogerson in victory lane at their conclusion. When asked what clicked at 34, Rogerson said, “Age.” The former Super Modified pilot competed weekly from 1985 to 1990 and, along with Bobby Mincer and Ryan Jamison, has as many laps as any Sprint Car pilot at the W. Burlington facility.
