Sprint Invaders Preview: Lee County Speedway
By Jake Croxton
BURLINGTON, IA (June 27, 2006) – The Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders will kick
off a busy Independence Day holiday with the third 2006 visit to the Lee County
Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa. The venue known as “The Home Track” of the Sprint
Invaders will host its nineteenth series event since its inception in 2002 with
the running of the “Olson Bros. Custom Shop / Budweiser 25.”
Matt Sutton enters the Wednesday, June 28th event as the points leader. The
Macomb, Ill. driver currently holds a 32-point advantage over Ryan Jamison.
Sutton
has experienced both highs and lows at the Lee County Fairgrounds 3/8-mile in
2006. In the series’ first visit back in April, Sutton earned his first-career
Invaders victory and took the points lead for the first time. Then, in May,
Sutton was battling for position near the top 10 and ended his night against the
turn 1 guardrail, relegated to a 20th place finish.
For Jamison, consistency has put the Young’s Auto Mart / Ostrich / F5 into the
runner-up position in points for the first time. After a slow start, the
Mediapolis, Iowa veteran is still gunning for his first series win.
“Each time I don’t do it, I’m getting hungrier for the (darn) thing,” Jamison
said in a recent interview. “tried some new stuff with this F5 car. I’m the only
guy running them around here…We’ve had some new-style radius rods in the rear
that I tried because he thought they’d really work, but I think I handicapped
the guys the first four races trying to play with stuff when I didn’t know what
I was doing. We tore the things off…and it looks like a totally different car
from the start of the season.”
Korey Weyant dropped a spot to third in the standings after Memphis. Two
consecutive rough outings have Weyant 36 points out of the lead. After winning
the B-Main in Memphis, Weyant rebounded to pick up the KSE Racing Products Hard
Charger Award but still was unable to stay ahead of Jamison.
The Lee County event kicks off with Hot Laps at 7 p.m. Racing will follow at
7:30. A $500 to win Hobby Stock feature and a $100 to win Wild Things feature
will
fill out the support card. Grandstand admission is $12 for Adults, $10 for
Students and Seniors, and Free for Kids 10 and under. Pit passes are $25.
