Sutton Wins Third of 2006 at Lee County Fair
By Jake Croxton

DONNELLSON, IA. (July 7, 2006) – Current Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders points leader Matt Sutton was credited with his third win of the season during Lee County Fair action, but it was mixed emotions for the Macomb, Ill. driver. Rager Phillips crossed the finish line first, but failed post-race inspection, handing the win to Sutton.

“I don’t consider somebody getting disqualified and running second really a race win, but we’ll take it,” said the driver of the S&S Shortstop / Onion Farms / Thom’s Auto Body / Maxim. “Chris (McGraw) had the car dialed in again and the Olson Bros. motor program right now is working for us. They’ve got them dialed in and I can’t thank Kyle and Bubba and Conrad enough.”

The 25-lapper was actually scored completed at lap 20. A flurry of early cautions before the seventh lap created fuel concerns, so the checkers were thrown five laps shy of the finish.

Jeff Mitrisin charged from fifth to the lead by the fourth lap and had plans to run away from the 20-car field, but a faulty fuel pump parked the Wares-Harrison Motorsports / Maxim on the cushion in turn two on lap 4.

Phillips was the class of the field, with his only challenge coming in traffic during the middle stages of the event.

“You never know if we had the other five laps,” continued Sutton, who will make his first ever visit to the Bloomfield Speedway next week. “He (Phillips) was pretty good on the cushion and us two young kids put on a pretty good show around the top. I just don’t know if I’m very young.”

Phillips was using a borrowed engine after a dirt clod ruptured an oil line on his primary motor at West Liberty. A worn-off ASCS stamp on the head was the infraction that cost Rager his second win of 2006.

Ryan Jamison continued his consistent season after earning his best finish of 2006 in second.

“It was one of those ‘almost’ deals,” admitted the 2002 Invaders titlist. “I got a signal to go to the bottom in three on four on that yellow and went down there. I think after the next restart, it was the time the bottom went away and Sutton went right around me. Then I went to the top, and didn’t feel any pressure so I think we had a solid third.”

Bobby Hawks was credited with third ahead of the night’s KSE Racing Product Hard Charger Manny Rockhold. Rockhold won the Budweiser B-Main in the Boles Auto Sales / Avenger and worked to fourth. Larry Ball, Jr. ended the event in the top five ahead of Korey Weyant, Bobby Mincer, Jayson Ditsworth, Bart Andrews, and Travis Porter.

The next round for the 2006 Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders tour will take place at the Davis County Fair and the Bloomfield Speedway next Thursday, July 13th. For the latest news on the series, visit www.sprintinvaders.com
