Brown Best in ASCS North vs. South Shootout Opener
by: Lonnie Wheatley
DENISON, Iowa (July 20, 2007) – Brian Brown topped the opening leg of the
American Sprint Car Series Midwest vs. Northern Plains Region North vs. South
Sprint Car Shootout by wiring the field in Friday night's 25-lap feature at
Crawford County Speedway.
After collecting his third overall ASCS Regional win of the year aboard Tim and
Gina Doogs' Ostrich-powered Ditzfield Transfer No. 21 Maxim, Brown stated, "This
is a new prototype Maxim Chassis and along with the Ostrich Engine power this
car was great all night. Mike at Maxim should sell a ton of these cars!"
Seventeen-year-old Jack Dover started from the pole position, but it was Brown
gunning into the lead at the outset. Dover fought off fellow teen shoe Lee Grosz
for second and kept Brown in sight until the ninth round when the caution flew
for defending ASCS Midwest Region champion Toby Chapman, who hit the turn four
wall.
Brown cruised up front until hitting lapped traffic, with Dover closing in on
the 17th round only to have the caution fly when Billy Alley spun in turn four
after cutting a left rear tire.
Brown reached traffic again with two laps ago but made quick work of a pair of
lapped cars, taking the checkered flag a half straightaway ahead of Dover.
Clint Garner claimed the show position, with Scott Winters and Grosz rounding
out the top five. Skip Jackson was sixth, with Chad Meyer, Dave Glennon, Curt
Lund and Natalie Sather completing the top ten.
Brown, Seth Brahmer and Grosz topped heat race action, with Alley winning the
"B" Main.
